The fifth round Grand Chess Tour Superbet Classic 2024 witnessed five draws. However, R Praggnanandhaa had the best chance to score his second win of the event. It would have also been his first Classical win over Wesley So (USA). The teenager could not spot his opportunity in the endgame and it ended in a draw. D Gukesh had a well contested draw against Nodirbek Abdusattorov (UZB). Bogdan-Daniel Deac (ROU) had to defend rook vs rook and knight endgame for 47 moves before Ian Nepomniachtchi accepted a draw. Umashankar dominates Visalakshi - Arunachalam 8th SCS Rating Open 2024

Tenth seeded Umashankar A scored an unbeaten 7.5/8 to win 8th Visalakshi - Arunachalam 8th SCS Rating Open 2024. He finished a half point ahead of the competition. FM Prasannaa S made a blazing start 7/7. In the final round, Umashankar defeated him to become a clear champion. Four players - Prasannaa, IM Nitin S, Selvamurugan B and Vijay Shreeram P scored 7/8 each. They were placed second to fifth according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹450000. The top three prizes were ₹70000, ₹50000 and ₹35000 along with a trophy each. The four-day rating tournament was organized by Sivakasi Chess Sparklers and Mepco Schlenk Engineering College, Sivakasi at Mepco Schlenk Engineering College, Sivakasi in Sivakasi, Tamil Nadu from 8th to 11th June 2024. R Praggnanandhaa scored his first win at Grand Chess Tour Superbet Classic 2024 against Anish Giri (NED) in Round 4. On his 30th birthday, Giri jested about facing the teenager with the black pieces. It was evident in his game that there was some truth in his humor. He made some uncharacteristic move and spent the better part of his game in defending. The eventuality of that game was Praggnanandhaa's win which is what happened. D Gukesh had a relatively peaceful draw against Alireza Firouzja (FRA). Fabiano Caruana (USA) scored his first-ever Classical victory against Bogdan-Daniel Deac (ROU) to gain sole lead 3/4. Afreed T Khan wins Bhimavaram Rating Open 2024

Afreed T Khan, Gyana Sai Santhosh M, Kushal O, Bharat Kumar Reddy Poluri, Alluri Bhaskara Ratna Shanmukha Reddy and Rohan Kumar Gourabathuni scored 8/10 each at Bhimavaram Rating Open 2024. Afreed won the tournament due to better tie-break score. The remaining five were placed second to sixth respectively. The total prize fund was ₹500000. The top three prizes were ₹60000, ₹50000 and ₹30000 along with a trophy each respectively. The six-day ten-round rating tournament was organized by Anasuya Chess Academy, Bhimavaram in association with Cosmopolitan Club, Bhimavaram and West Godavari District Chess Association at Cosmopolitan Club in Bhimavaram, Andhra Pradesh from 4th to 9th June 2024. This is Afreed's first rating and second overall tournament triumph of the year. 37th Magistral Ciudad de Leon: Vishy Anand beats Veselin Topalov, advances to the Final

Vishy Anand defeated Veselin Topalov (BUL) 2.5-1.5 in the first Semifinal of 37th Torneo Magistral de Ajedrez Ciudad de Leon. First game could have gone either player's way. Topalov had a good chance in the endgame of the second game. Anand struck in the third game when his opponent did not anticipate the kingside onslaught correct. The five-time Classical world champion could have finished things much earlier. Anand drew the fourth game in an advantageous position as it was enough for him to advance to the Final. Superbet Classic 2024 R3: Praggnanandhaa misses a win against Gukesh

The highly anticipated battle between D Gukesh and R Praggnanandhaa ended in a draw in Round 3 of Grand Chess Tour Superbet Classic 2024. However, it was not without excitement. Gukesh made an incorrect queen trade offer in the endgame which allowed his opponent, to liquidate into a winning pawn endgame, except Praggnanandhaa could not manage to capitalize on his chance. It was not easy but certainly something a player of his calibre should not miss. Maxime Vachier-Lagrave (FRA) was the other player who had a great opportunity to push for a win against Alireza Firouzja (FRA). The former World Blitz champion did not push his passed pawn at the right time. His opponent escaped with a draw. In Round 4, it will be Firouzja vs Gukesh and Praggnanandhaa vs Anish Giri. Khelo Chess India Fide Rating Income-Expenditure Statement

Friends, thanks to the special support from members of Hindi ChessBase India, we have successfully organized an international classic rating tournament in Bhopal for the first time under the "Khelo Chess India" campaign. While organizing this tournament, our main goal was to conduct a world-class tournament that would reach every section of society. With this in mind, we made the tournament a six-day event to give players some rest between matches. Additionally, the entry fee was set at only 600 rupees. Due to its social message, the World Chess Federation included it as part of the prestigious FIDE 100 series, making it the first such tournament in the country.Friends, for any event organized through collective contributions, we believe it is essential to present the income and expenditure details transparently. India wins 34 medals at 26th Asian Youth Chess Championships 2024

India won ten medals - four individual and six team at 26th Asian Youth 2024 Blitz. Sarbartho Mani clinched Gold in Under-8 Open scoring 7.5/9. Advik Amit Agrawal scored an unbeaten 8/9 to secure Silver in Under-10 Open. Sriram Adarsh Uppala secured a Silver medal in Under-14 Open. He scored 7.5/9. The only Indian girl to win an individual medal in Blitz - Shreya G Hipparagi. She scored 6.5/9 to win Bronze. India had won nine medals in Rapid, 15 in Classical and now ten in Blitz. Kazakhstan won Best Federation as they secured ten individual medals in Classical. India won Silver by winning eight medals. Vietnam third with three medals. Arjun Erigaisi and Vishy Anand both will be seen in action at 37th Torneo Magistral de Ajedrez Ciudad de Leon. It will be knockout tournament played in Rapid time control in a best of four games. In the first Semifinal, it will be the clash of two former world champions - Veselin Topalov (BUL) and Anand. The defending champion, Jaime Santos Latasa (ESP) will face Arjun Erigaisi as determined in the draw of lots in presence of the Chief Arbiter - IA Javier Perez Llera (ESP). Alireza Firouzja (FRA) bounced back with a victory over Nodirbek Abdusattorov (UZB) in the second round of Grand Chess Tour Superbet Classic 2024. The former World Rapid champion provoked his opponent to improve his pawn structure. It proved detrimental to Abdusattorov as later his opponent could afford to sacrifice an exchange due to a strong control of the center. Fabiano Caruana (USA) was winning for the better part of the game against Wesley So (USA). However, the All-American battle ended peacefully. D Gukesh had to defend a slightly unpleasant rook and minor piece endgame against Ian Nepomniachtchi for nearly 64 moves. Praggnanandhaa drew with Maxime Vachier-Lagrave comfortably. Tech Mahindra Global Chess League to host its second edition in London

The highly anticipated second edition of Tech Mahindra Global Chess League will take place in London, England from 3rd to 12th October 2024. It will take place at Friends House in central London. Soon Global Chess League Trophy tour will be launched to increase and broaden viewership, interactive fan experiences and and community engagement activities. The format remains the same as the inaugural edition - six teams including two top women chess players and a prodigy player in a double round-robin system. Superbet Classic 2024 R1: D Gukesh defeats Bogdan-Daniel Deac

D Gukesh played his first Classical game at Grand Chess Tour Superbet Classic 2024 after winning FIDE Candidates a couple of months ago. He won the game against the Romania no.2 - Bogdan-Daniel Deac. However, it was not a smooth victory. In fact, at one point in the middlegame, Gukesh captured his opponent's centralized knight incorrectly. It gave his opponent a chance to gain a substantial advantage. He missed it and Gukesh went on to capitalize on his material advantage eventually. Fabiano Caruana (USA) scored the only other win of the round against Alireza Firouzja (FRA). R Praggnanandhaa had a well contested draw against Nodirbek Abdusattorov (UZB). The Tata Steel 4th All India FIDE Rated Specially abled Chess Tournament 2024 is taking place at the JRD Sports Complex in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand. Tata Steel Ltd. is the organizer of the event, under the aegis of CFPD - Chess Federation for Physically disabled Chess players. After 5 rounds of play, there is a 4-way tie at the top with 4.5/5 points - Naveen Kumar A (1986, AP), Venkata Krishna Karthik K (1889,AP), Samarth J Rao (1770, KAR) and Nabhneel Das (1520, UP) are co-leading with 4.5/5 points. On the upcoming 20th of July, when the World Chess Federation will be celebrating its 100th anniversary, FIDE, along with organizers from around the world, will officially attempt to set a world record on World Chess Day. You can be a part of this special effort by participating in the Khelo Chess India FIDE Blitz Rating Tournament in Bhopal from 5 PM to 9 PM. This tournament in Bhopal is part of a series organized by FIDE worldwide. Following the success of the Khelo Chess India Classical FIDE Rating Tournament, this will be our second FIDE Rating Tournament.
