Ramkumar prevails at 2nd Marvel Below 1600 Rating Tournament 2023

R Ramkumar scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win 2nd Marvel Below 1600 Rating Open 2023. He finished a half point ahead of the field. Tijil Singh and C R Ritvik scored 8/9 each. They were placed second and third respectively according to tie-breaks. Ramkumar's sole draw was against the eventual runner-up, Tijil. The top three finishers remained undefeated. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹600000. IM Arghyadip Das scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win 19th Sri Narayana Guru Trophy Rapid Rating Open 2023. He finished a half point ahead of the field. WIM Isha Sharma and Raghav Srivathsav Varayogi scored 8/9 each. They secured second and third place respectively. IM Sharan Rao scored a perfect 9/9 to win 20th Sri Narayana Guru Trophy Blitz Open 2023. WIM Isha Sharma once again secured second place scoring 8/9. Lakshith B Salian and FM Preetham R Sharma scored 7.5/9 each. They were placed third and fourth respectively according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund for Rapid Rating was ₹200000, for Blitz it was ₹4000. The top three prizes in Rapid were ₹25000, ₹20000 and ₹15000, for Blitz they were ₹5000, ₹4000 and ₹3000. Top seed Naitik R Mehta scored an unbeaten 8/9 to win 2nd Indore GM Below 2000 Rating Tournament 2024. He finished a half point ahead of the competition. Anurag Jaiswal, Rishabh Nishad, Bhaavan Kolla and Devansh Singh scored 7.5/9 each. They were placed second to fifth respectively according to tie-breaks. Naitik, Anurag, Bhaavan and Bishal Basak remained undefeated among top ten. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹1400000. The top three prizes were ₹100000, ₹75000 and ₹60000 along with a trophy each respectively. Naitik started 2024 with a victory in the first tournament he played. Tata Steel 2024 R3: Divya Deshmukh and Nodirbek Abdusattorov set the board on fire

IM Divya Deshmukh scored her first win at Tata Steel Challengers 2024 against GM Jaime Santos Latasa (ESP). She could not have asked for a better win as she sacrificed her bishop and rook to launch a devastating attack on her opponent's kingside. Sure, the Spanish GM could have saved it but practically it was not easy to find. In the Masters section, Vidit Gujrathi drew against Ian Nepomniachtchi comfortably. R Praggnanandhaa also shared the point against Wei Yi (CHN). D Gukesh suffered a loss against Ding Liren (CHN). The world champion stated that he is getting back into his shape after two warm-up games. Round 4 pairings: Liren v Praggnanandha, Giri v Gukesh, Jorden van Foreest v Vidit, Liam Vrolijk v Harika Dronavalli, Leon Luke Mendonca v Erwin L'Ami and Hans Niemann v Divya Deshmukh. Sudhanshu Ranjan triumphs at 2nd Nitai Ghosh Memorial Rating Open 2023

Sudhanshu Ranjan scored an unbeaten 8/9 to win 2nd Nitai Ghosh Memorial Rating Open 2023. He finished a half point ahead of the rest. Four players - Kishan Kumar, Anushka Gupta, Rahul Gurung and Arpan Das scored 7.5/9 each. They were placed second to fifth respectively according to tie-breaks. Sudhanshu defeated both runners-up - Anushka and Kishan in Round 8 and 7 respectively. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹555555. The top three prizes were ₹50000, ₹30000 and ₹20000 along with a trophy each respectively. Only Sudhanshu remained undefeated among top ten. The tournament was organized in memory of Nitai Ghosh. Guru Prakash wins 360 One Wealth Junior Under-15 GP Series 2 Rating 2023

Guru Prakash, Atharv Soni and Darsh Shetty scored 6/7 at 360 One Wealth Junior Under-15 GP Series 2 Rating 2023. Guru won the tournament due to better tie-break score. Atharv and Darsh were placed second and third. Guru drew against the eventual second runner-up, Darsh in the final round. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹250000. The top three prizes were ₹50000 + trophy, ₹30000 and ₹25000 each. This was Guru's third tournament triumph of 2023. It is also his first-ever rating tournament victory of his career. D Gukesh defeated Wei Yi (CHN) in the second round of 86th Tata Steel Masters 2024. The Chinese virtually imploded when he made an incorrect knight sacrifice in an already difficult position. R Praggnanandhaa and Vidit Gujrathi drew against Nodirbek Abdusattorov (UZB) and Anish Giri (NED) respectively. In the Challengers section, Harika Dronavalli and Leon Luke Mendonca shared the point versus Daniel Dardha (BEL) and Marc' Andria Maurizzi (FRA). IM Divya Deshmukh suffered a loss against Anton Korobov (UKR). GM Sankalp Gupta scored an unbeaten 8/9 to win 20th Bois-Colombes Master Open A 2023. He finished a full point ahead of the field. IM Anatole Vlachos (GRE) scored sole 7/9 to secure second place. GM Sergey A Fedorchuk (UKR) edged past three other players on tie-breaks to finish third scoring 6.5/9. The total prize fund of the tournament combining three category was €7400, €4100 for Open A. The top three prizes were €1200, €800 and €500 along with a trophy each respectively. The total participation combining Open A, B and C was 460. This was Sankalp's sole tournament triumph in 2023. Deepan Chakkravarthy drew with Alexei Fedorov in the seventh round of 2nd Indore GM Open 2024. IM Arash Tahbaz (IRI) blundered terribly in a rook endgame which should have been an easy draw against GM Boris Savchenko. Thus, Savchenko joined Fedorov in the lead 6/7. FM Goutham Krishna H scored a fine victory against GM Hesham Abdelrahman (EGY). The teenager showed great technique in the endgame. FM Kashish Manoj Jain got the better of the Sri Lanka no.1 - IM L M S T De Silva. Goutham and Kashish are the only two non-IM/GMs among the eight pack pursuers at 5.5/7 each. Vidit Gujrathi drew against Ding Liren (CHN) in the first round of 86th Tata Steel Masters 2024. It was the first Classical rated game for the world champion since May 2023. D Gukesh had an exciting draw against Nodirbek Abdusattorov (UZB). R Praggnanandhaa had a well-contested draw with Parham Maghsoodloo (IRI). Leon Luke Mendonca is the sole Indian to score a win in the first round against IM Eline Roebers (NED). IM Divya Deshmukh had good chances to push for a win versus IM Stefan Beukema (BEL). GM Harika Dronavalli blundered in the endgame against GM Marc' Andria Maurizzi (FRA). However, the French missed his opportunity and it ended in a draw. Vedant Panesar becomes the latest International Master from Mumbai

20-year-old Vedant Panesar became India's latest International Master in December 2023. The Mumbai lad earned his maiden IM-norm at Maia Open 2022 in Maia, Portugal. A year, a month and half later, he earned his second IM-norm at Qatar Masters 2023. Ten days later, he started playing at Vezerkepzo Fall GM 2023, where he scored his final IM-norm. Vedant crossed 2400 rating barrier in December 2023 FIDE Rating list as his Elo rating showed 2445. He also scored his fourth and fifth IM-norms consecutively after earning his final IM-norm. The first major chess event of the year 2024 is 86th Tata Steel Chess. Six Indians - three in Masters and three in Challengers will be seen in action. It is the highest ever, one more from last year. In Round 1 Masters it will be, Vidit Gujrathi vs Ding Liren (CHN), D Gukesh vs Nodirbek Abdusattorov (UZB) and R Praggnanandhaa vs Parham Maghsoodloo (IRI). 2nd Indore GM Open 2024 R5-6: Fedorov emerges sole leader, Deepan in pursuit

GM Alexei Fedorov is the new sole leader 5.5/6 at 2nd Indore GM Open 2024. He defeated IM Ratnakaran K and GM Hesham Abdelrahman (EGY) in Round 5 and 6 respectively. The veteran GM is followed by GM Deepan Chakkravarthy, IM Arash Tahbaz (IRI) and GM Boris Savchenko at 5/6 each. There are 16 players including 13 Indians at 4.5/6 each. FM Goutham Krishna H and FM Kashish Manoj Jain are the only non-GM/IM among them. Deepan will face Fedorov inevitably in the seventh round.
