European Club Cup 2025 R1: Aravindh, Abhimanyu, Vidit, Harikrishna and Vantika make a winning start

The defending champions, Novy Bor Chess Club and Tajfun SK Ljubljana scored a 6-0 whitewash win at 40th European Chess Club Open and 29th Women tournaments. The highest rated player in the field, World no.4, GM Arjun Erigaisi (Alkaloid) was held to a draw by IM Nderim Saraci (Dardania). Arjun's remaining five teammates including Aravindh Chithambaram and Abhimanyu Puranik won their respective games. Manmay Chopra (Kingston Kings) had a promising position against IM Faustino Oro (Turkish Airlines Sports Club). The game eventually ended in a draw. Among the Women, IM Vantika Agrawal made a winning start for the reigning and defending champion, Tajfun SK Ljubljana. WFM Bodhana Sivanandan (She plays to Win Lionesses #1) scored the biggest of the day when she defeated the 15th Women's World Champion, GM Mariya Muzychuk (Turkish Airlines Sports Club). IM Md. Imran won 1st Thiruvarur Rating Open 2025 with a 100% score 8/8. He finished a half point ahead of the rest. Dhanush Ragav N S scored sole 7.5/8 to secure second place. 13 players scored 6.5/8 each. Out of them, IM Ajay Santhosh Parvathareddy was placed third according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund was ₹400001. The top three prizes were ₹30001, ₹20000 and ₹15000 along with a trophy each. The four-day eight round Rating Open tournament was organized by Thiruvarur District Chess Association at Mangal Varadhar A/C Marriage Hall in Thiruvarur, Tamil Nadu from 3rd to 6th October 2025. 16 Indians set to take part at European Chess Club Cup 2025 starting today

Novy Bor Chess Club and Tajfun SK Ljubljana are the defending champions of European Chess Club Cup Open and Women respectively. Total 16 Indians are taking part this year - 14 in Open and two in Women. World no.4, Arjun Erigaisi is the highest rated player of the event, for the second consecutive year. He will play for Alkaloid. Aravindh Chithambaram and Abhimanyu Puranik are two Indians among his teammates. The reigning World Champion, D Gukesh will play for Superchess. Vidit Gujrathi and Pentala Harikrishna will be set to defend the crown for Novy Bor Chess Club. Nihal Sarin will represent the highest rated team in the Open, Bayegan Pendik chess sports. Among the Women, the current Women's World Cup winner, GM Divya Deshmukh will play for Cercle d'échecs de Monte-Carlo. Nidhi Bhasin, mother of WFM Shivika Rohilla, has done exactly that with Chess Coffee Connect in Delhi-NCR, a beautiful initiative where, as the name suggests, chess and coffee meet to create something special. India dominates World Railway Championship 2025

India scored a perfect 15/15 to become World Railway USIC Champion 2025. The team finished two match point ahead of the rest. Germany and Switzerland scored 13/15 each to secure second and third place respectively. The Indian team comprised of GM Diptayan Ghosh, IM Himal Gusain, GM Mitrabha Guha, IM Neelash Saha, GM P Shyaam Nikhil, GM Visakh N R and T J Sureshkumar (Coach). India whitewashed Switzerland, Austria and Bulgaria by 6-0 each. The remaining two wins were against Germany 5.5-0.5 and Czech Republic 1-5. Mitrabha, Himal and Neelash scored a perfect 5/5. Diptayan, Visakh and Shyaam contributed a valuable 4.5/5 each. All members of India are part of Indian Railways.

Shashveen A K triumphs at 23rd Adyar Times Rating Open 2025

Shashveen A K, Hari Ganesh T, Lukesh A and Goutham Ramesh scored 7/8 each at 23rd Adyar Times Rating Open 2025. Shashveen won the tournament on tie-breaks. The remaining three secured second to fourth place respectively according to tie-breaks. The two-time defending champion, Hari got himself very close to scoring the hat-trick but he missed it. He managed to remain undefeated and won against the eventual champion, Shashveen in the penultimate round. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹250000. Kartavya Anadkat and Om Gada scored 8/9 each at Zemo Chessnuts Series Rapid Rating Open 2025. Kartavya became champion on tie-breaks. Om secured second place. Six players - Sanjeev Mishra, FM Anirudhha Potawad, Vivaan Sardana, Arnav Kherdekar, Arvind Iyer and Arnav Mahesh Koli scored 7.5/9 each. FM Dhananjay S and Vidit Sethi scored 8/9 each at 1st Maharathi Rating Open 2025. Dhananjay won the tournament on tie-breaks, Vidit secured second place. Shreyas Raj, CM Nimay Agrawal, Ekaaksha Paratp Singh Negi and Ojas Joshi scored 7.5/9 each. They were placed third to sixth respectively. The total prize fund was ₹1311000. The top three prizes were ₹111000, ₹71000 and ₹41000 along with a trophy each. Norway Chess launches new World Championship - Approved by FIDE

A move that no one saw coming, FIDE has approved a new World Championship format - The Total Chess World Championship Tour. It will be organized by Norway Chess. The tour will consist of Fast Classical, Rapid and Blitz. Fast Classical time control will be 45 minutes + 30 seconds increment. The time control is similar to football matches and not new to the chess universe. Various tournaments in India and around the world have used similar time controls. The tour will have four events each year. The total annual prize pool will be a minimum $2.7 Million, $750000 for the first three events, $450000 for the Finals and performance bonus. The tour will be aiming to look for the 'Total chess player'. A pilot tournament is planned for Fall 2026 with full championship season to take place in 2027. Photo: Norway Chess

FM Prasannaa S scored an unbeaten 7.5/8 to win 10th Sri M S Venkataraman Memorial Rating Open 2025. Prasannaa finished a half point ahead of the rest. Five players - IM Praveen Kumar C, Ajjjesh J R, IM Avinash Ramesh, FM M Vinoth Kumar and Barath L scored 7/8 each. They were placed second to sixth respectively according to tie-breaks. Prasannaa defeated the eventual runner-up, Praveen in the penultimate round. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹500000. The top three prizes were ₹60000 + trophy, ₹50000 and ₹40000 each. IM Suyog Wagh scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win 3rd Pinnacle Rapid Rating Open 2025. He finished a full point ahead of the field. Six players - IM Vikramaditya Kulkarni, Ram Vishal Parab, IM Sagar Shah, Jeet Shah, FM Kaivalya Sandip Nagare and FM Om Manish Kadam scored 7.5/9 each. They secured second to seventh place respectively according to tie-breaks. Suyog defeated the eventual runner-up Vikramaditya in the seventh round. The total prize fund was ₹400000. The top three prizes were ₹50000, ₹35000 and ₹20000 along with a huge trophy each.
