Praggnanandhaa on the verge of winning V Géza Hetényi Memorial 2023

17-year-old R Praggnanandhaa continues his good form from Tech Mahindra Global Chess League. He crossed 2700 in the live ratings when he beat Parham Maghsoodloo in the second round on 12th July at V Géza Hetényi Memorial 2023. The teenager won the next two games before suffering his first loss against M Amin Tabatabaei. Immediately in the following round, he bounced back with a victory against Peter Prohaszka. The next two games ended in draws against Pavel Eljanov and Maxim Matlakov. Praggnanandhaa needs a draw in the last round against Poland no.2 Radoslaw Wojtaszek to become a clear champion. 56th Biel MTO R2: Harikrishnan's passed pawns too strong for Meshkovs

GM Arjun Erigaisi salvaged a draw against GM Yangyi Yu in the first round of 56th Biel GMT 2023. Arjun was lost for the better part of the endgame against the China no.2. However, he persevered tough positions and eventually managed to escape with a 1.5 points. GM Liem Quang Le (VIE) and GM David Navara (CZE) scored the victories over GM Bogdan-Daniel Deac (ROU) and GM Bassem Amin (EGY) respectively. Navara is the early sole leader in the GMT with 14/18 points. IM Harikrishnan A Ra scored a fantastic win over Latvia no.2 GM Nikita Meshkovs. GM Aryan Chopra won the 'Beauty Award' for his first round win. Akash G triumphs at 6th Bohumín Open 2023

GM Akash G and FM Stanislaw Zylka (POL) scored 7/9 each at 6th Bohumín Open A (≥1900) 2023. Akash defeated Zylka in the sixth round. It became the deciding factor for him to win the tournament. IM Piotr Nguyen (POL), IM Jakub Pulpan (CZE) and FM Iwo Godzwon (POL) scored 6.5/9 each. They were placed third to fifth respectively according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund of the tournament was 61000 CZK. The top three prizes were 15000 + trophy, 10000 and 8000 CZK. This is Akash's first tournament triumph of the year. His also first tournament victory since he won the Prague International Chess Festival back in February 2020. Kushagra Mohan wins Masthanaiah Chess World Rapid Rating Open 2023

IM Kushagra Mohan and FM Md. Imran scored an unbeaten 9/10 each at Masthanaiah Chess World Rapid Rating Open 2023. Kushagra won the tournament due to better tie-breaks, Imran was placed second. FM Harsh Suresh, IM D V Prasad, IM Ramnathan Balasubramaniam, Nihal Swarna, Mani Bharathy and Hari Charan Sai Kalluri scored 8.5/10 each. They were placed third to eighth respectively. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹200000. The top three prizes were ₹50000, ₹20000 and ₹10000 along with a trophy each respectively. Nashik Chess Club: A positive step towards Chess growth

Nashik, the city of grapes, is dubbed as having the best weather and a fascinating cultural and historical heritage. However, Nashik also has a strong chess heritage. Grandmaster Vidit Gujrathi, India's third-ranked player, hails from there! But I doubt you would find any chess clubs in Nashik if you looked anyplace.  You can now, though! Mr. Onkar Jadhav established a chess club in Nashik's city central mall in conjunction with his chess academy. Since he began teaching chess to students many years ago, Mr. Onkar Jadhav, a national level coach, has had several of his pupils go on to achieve titles as players. He just made the decision to launch a chess club in order to promote the game. The chess club takes place every Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the City Centre Mall. Ameya Audi amazing at České Budějovice Chess Festival Open 2023

IM Ameya Audi scored an unbeaten 8/9 to win České Budějovice Chess Festival Rating Open A 2023. He finished a full point ahead of the field. GM Vignir Vatnar Stefansson (ISL) and Benedikt Briem (ISL) scored 7/9 each. They were placed second and third respectively according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund of the tournament was over 90000 CZK. The top three prizes were 10000, 8000 and 6000 along with a trophy each. This is Ameya's second tournament triumph of the year. Earlier this year he won a Rapid Rating Open where he also finished a full point ahead of others. FM Jeet Jain earned his second IM-norm in the IM Round-Robin event. He scored 6.5/9 to finish second. Pranav Anand dominates 56th Biel Chess Festival Rapid Open 2023

GM Pranav Anand scored an unbeaten 8/9 to win 56th Biel International Chess Festival Rapid Open (RAP) 2023. He finished a half point ahead of the field. Both IM Shawn Rodrigue-Lemieux (CAN) and IM Marco Materia (FRA) scored 7.5/9 each. They secured second and third place. The total prize fund in this event was CHF 3600 + non-cash prizes. The top three prizes were CHF 800, 700 and 600 along with a medal each respectively. IM Vantika Agrawal and IM Harikrishnan A Ra scored 7/9 each. They secured fifth and sixth place respectively. Vantika is the sole female player to make a top 20 finish. GM Bharath Subramaniyam H scored 6.5/9 to finish eighth.Vincent Keymer (GER) and David Navara (CZE) topped the GMT Rapid event. Yi Xu wins Thailand Open 2023 Masters, Diptayan Ghosh second

GM Yi Xu (CHN) scored 7/9 to win Thailand International Chess Open 2023 Masters. He finished a half point ahead of the field. GM Diptayan Ghosh scored sole 6.5/9 to finish second. Both of them remained undefeated. The seventh round encounter between them ended in a draw. Four player scored 6/9. Out of them, FM Alexander Chernyavsky secured third place according to tie-breaks. The top three prizes in the Masters were 175000, 90000 and 70000 Baht each respectively. For Amateur section, it was 32000, 28000 and 24000 Baht each. This event was part of ASEAN chess series. Shadhursshaan clinches 1st Dhoni's Trophy Rating Open 2023

15-year-old Shadhursshaan R scored an unbeaten 8/9 to win 1st Dhoni's Trophy Rating Open 2023. He finished a half point ahead of the competition. Sailesh R, Aakash G and Iyengar Narayan scored 7.5/9 each. They were placed second to fourth respectively according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹720000. 208 prizes including 103 cash prize and 105 trophies were up for grabs. The top three prizes were ₹50000, ₹35000 and ₹25000 along with a trophy each respectively. This is Shadhursshaan's first open rating tournament triumph, second overall rating tournament victory of his career. Last year he won 10th National School Under-15 Open 2022. 56th Biel GMT 2023: Yangyi Yu dominates Accentus Chess960

Yangyi Yu scored an unbeaten 5.5/7 to win the Accentus Chess960, opening event of 56th Biel International Chess Festival 2023 GMT. Both Bogdan-Daniel Deac (ROU) and David Navara (ROU) scored 4.5/7 each. They secured second and third place. The standings of this event is used to determine the seeding of the Classical segment and if required, as a tie-break too after the conclusion of the Grandmaster Triathlon (GMT). The Rapid event will start today, Sunday 16th July. Monday 17th and Sunday 23rd July will be two rest days. The Classical event will commence on 18th and conclude on 26th July. Blitz will take place on Saturday 22nd July. Rapid, Classical and Blitz all are part of the Grandmaster Triathlon. D Gukesh finished third in the last edition. Who do you think will win the GMT? The most talented 8-year-old in the world right now - Bodhana Sivanandan!

There are talented young chess players all over the world. They all have different journeys and differing aspirations in their lives. However, a few of them shine so brightly through their hard work that the light they emit inspires others. Sagar Shah interviewed one such very talented kid, who might easily be the most talented 8-year-old in the world right now. Yes, we are talking about the highly skilled and talented Bodhana Sivanandan. The 8-year-old talent from London recently achieved something truly amazing. Bodhana finished first at the world's cadets under 8 in rapid and blitz. What is more amazing is that she did it with a perfect score of 11/11, winning all her games in both formats. Bodhana finished 1st in rapid with a perfect score of 11, while the second seed was at 8 points, and in the blitz section, the second seed was at 7 points. The World Cadets under-8 Rapid and Blitz 2023 were held in Batumi, Georgia. How did Bodhana manage to pull off this incredible feat? Let's uncover that in this article!

Sharan Rao wins 2nd Georgi Rakovski Chess Festival Below 2400 Rating Tournament 2023

FM Sharan Rao scored 8/9 at 2nd Georgi Rakovski International Chess Festival Below 2400 Rating Tournament 2023. He finished a half point ahead of the field. Despite losing his fourth round game against the eventual runner-up, FM Nikola Kanov (BUL), Sharan won his next five games to become a clear champion. IM Nikola Nikolovski (MKD) scored sole 7/9 to finish third. The top three prizes were BGN 2000, 1500 and 1000 each respectively. This is Sharan's third triumph of the year. Last month he won a rating tournament in Slovakia. He also finished fourth in the Blitz Open event, scoring 7/9. Currently, he is one of the three leaders heading into the final round of 42nd St. Veit Jacques-Lemans Open 2023 in Austria.

Winner of eight world titles, a strong grandmaster, and the second of both Magnus and Vishy, Peter Heine Nielsen is a name that is not unknown in the chess world. While chess is a hard game, it is almost impossible to fathom what it’s like at the very top. The training these world champions go through and how they work is something that seems to be a mystery to a common person or an amateur player. The world of top grandmasters seems like a distant galaxy that is hard to reach. In this interview, we sat with one such person who has been closely involved in that world for many years now. We had a conversation with Peter Heine and discussed everything ranging from his role as a second to both Magnus and Vishy, the differences that the onset of AI has brought to the chess world, the coming generation, the future of chess, and more. 

Winning the ChessBoxing Asian Championships and World Cup - Nongsha Angom

The gold medal winner in both, the World Cup, and the recently concluded Asian championship, Angom Nongsha Singh, is a man with many titles under his belt. He is also the broadcast manager for Chessbase for many years now. Although the journey was not a bed of roses for him, his perseverance and dedication led him to win laurels in many fields. We had the chance to interview the man after his recent win in the Asian championship and got to know a lot about ChessBoxing, his journey, future plans, and more.

Abhijeet Gupta wins Orillas de Mar Open 2023

GM Abhijeet Gupta, GM Yan Liu (CHN), GM Xiangzhi Bu (CHN), IM Dragos Ceres (ROU) and Tong Xiao (CHN) scored 7/9 each at Orillas de Mar International Open 2023. Abhijeet won the tournament due to better tie-breaks. The remaining four were placed second to fourth according to tie-breaks. Despite losing the second round against an untitled Chinese teenager, Renjie Huang, Abhijeet scored 6/7 in the next seven games to finish first. The total prize fund of the tournament was €11500. The top three prizes were €3500, €2500 and €1500 along with a trophy each respectively. GM Lalit Rohit is the only other Indian to make a top ten finish. He scored an unbeaten 6.5/9 to finish ninth.
