2nd Chessable Sunway Formentera R5: Raja Rithvik and Pranav Venkatesh make it a five-way lead

GM Aravindh Chithambaram had a well contested draw against GM Aryan Chopra. GMs Vladimir Fedossev, Raja Rithvik R and Pranav Venkatesh won their respective games to join the previous day leaders at 4/5 each. Raja Rithvik scored a very nice victory over GM Fernando Peralta (ARG). He created his advantage in a balanced major piece endgame and converted it into a full point. Pranav Venkatesh scored his fourth win in-a-row and ended his opponent FM Ritvik Krishnan's unbeaten run. The latter had an advantage, however it was not easy to maintain it and Pranav eventually seized his advantage. Today is a rest day. Satty Zhuldyz 2023: Arjun Erigaisi Roars in Rapid, now World no.24

Arjun Erigaisi won his first game for the third consecutive day. He won against the 14th world champion, Vladimir Kramnik. Then he drew against Levon Aronian, before finishing the Rapid event with a victory over, Kateryna Lagno. Although a draw would have sufficed for a first place finish in the Rapid, Arjun still went for the full point. Arjun won the Rapid event 9.5/11. Aronian finished second 8/11, followed by Alexader Grischuk at 7/11. The tournament is not over, as the final standings will be decided based on a cumulative score of Rapid and Blitz events. 22 games of Blitz will be played in a Double Round-Robin format. 2nd Chessable Sunway Formentera R4: A beautiful day to Sac the Queen

GM Aravindh Chithambaram scored a beautiful victory by offering his queen as a sacrifice. The win allowed him to join the lead with GM Aryan Chopra 3.5/4 at 2nd Chessable Sunway Formentera Open 2023. The reigning National Senior champion, GM Karthik Venkataraman had a couple of good chances against GM Vladimir Fedoseev before he managed to escape with a draw. Speaking of chances, FM Ritvik Krishnan and IM Aditya S Samant missed some great opportunities to beat GM Fernando Peralta (ARG) and GM Leon Luke Mendonca, both drew their games and are now at 3/4 and 2.5/4 each respectively. World Championship Game 9: The longest game so far

Ding Liren endured the longest game of the World Championship 2023 match. He is still a full point behind 4-5 against Ian Nepomniachtchi. Yet, the World no.3 oozes confidence. He answers, My self-confidence has to be based on something, chances of winning the match or the next game - in reply to a question, to rate his self-confidence between 1 and 10. Sure, Nepo has been at this stage once before. He is well-versed with off-the-board, verbal jousting. The World no.2 tried to push for a win and extend his lead but his well composed opponent did not budge. Arjun Erigaisi continues his momentum from the previous day at Satty Zhuldyz Rapid and Blitz 2023. He started the day with a convincing victory over GM Jakhongir Vakhidov (UZB). Then he showcased positional prowess against the reigning two-time World Blitz Women's champion, IM Bibisara Assaubayeva (KAZ). The teenager registered his third victory of the day against the legend, GM Boris Gelfand (ISR), who ran out of time in an equal knight endgame. Arjun finished the day with a draw against the Germany no.1 GM Vincent Keymer. He is now a full point ahead of Levon Aronian at 7/8. They will meet each other in the penultimate round. GM Aryan Chopra scored his third consecutive victory to become the sole leader at 2nd Chessable Sunway Formentera Open 2023. He defeated GM Daniel Alsina Leal (ESP) convincingly. First he transferred his king from kingside to the queenside, before liquidating into a winning a rook endgame. FM Ritvik Krishnan scored an excellent win against GM Hipolito Asis Gargatagli (ESP). The GM could not manage to gain enough compensation for the sacrificed knight against the teenager. World Championship Game 8: The Leaked Cannonball !?

The decisive streak of games at the FIDE World Championship 2023 is over. The eighth game was an absolute thriller. Ding Liren's 'Cannonball' almost worked. He missed a few good chances. However, one cannot ignore the fact that a reddit user found some training games on lichess which resembled yesterday's game a lot. Both lichess users were found to have played games mostly against each other. If a reddit user, can do a Poirot/Sherlock and find these games, it should not be a difficult task for Nepomniachtchi's team to find these before the game actually happened as the World no.2 was not fazed by the 'Cannonball' until 15.e5 surprised him. Arjun Erigaisi scored 3.5/4 on the first day of Satty Zhuldyz Rapid 2023. He is currently the sole leader and a full point ahead of Boris Gelfand and Levon Aronian. The India no.5 showcased his sharpness against Haik Martirosyan. In the second round, he had a thrilling finish against Javokhir Sindarov. It could have gone either player's way. In a first-ever rated matchup, Arjun got the better of World no.1 woman, Yifan Hou. She made an unforced error in the endgame which seemed to be heading towards a draw. 2nd Chessable Sunway Formentera R2: Prraneeth Vuppala beats Li Di

IM Prraneeth Vuppala scored an impressive win over GM Li Di (CHN) in the second round of 2nd Chessable Sunway Formentera Open 2023. The Chinese had trouble getting his kingside rook into the play for the entire game. In the end, he had to pay a price for it by losing the game. Prraneeth is now one of the eight players to have a made a perfect start 2/2. GM Aryan Chopra and the reigning National Senior champion, GM Karthik Venkataraman are the remaining two Indians among the pack. IM Kushagra Mohan had a good opportunity to beat the current World Under-16 Open champion, GM Pranav Anand. However, practically it was not so easy to convert. It is widely believed that the number of books written in chess is more than any other sport. Some books and great literature were lost over time for various reasons. While in the era of advanced technology, restoring and translating scripts might sound easier in words, but most certainly quite difficult when it comes to execution. FM Aniruddha Deshpande decided to take the difficult challenge of translating a book written in Sanskrit language over two hundred and twenty years ago. After two years of laborious work, he finally released - Jewels of Chess - 21st Century Edition on 1st January 2023. Team World wins Kazakhstan vs The World match 73-55

Team World defeated Kazakhstan 38.5-25.5 in Blitz to win the match overall 73-55. The Junior girls, IM Nurgyul Salimova (BUL) and WFM Afruza Khamdamova (UZB) are the top scorers for team World - 6.5/8 each. Afruza also remained the only undefeated player out of the 16 in the Blitz event. The second-highest scorer of the team is GM Nana Dzagnidze (GEO) 5.5/8. GM Harika Dronavalli scored 4.5/8 and India's latest WGM Savitha Shri B 4/8. Team World's biggest margin victories were by 6.5-1.5 in match no.3 and 7. 2nd Chessable Sunway Formentera R1: Mahitosh stuns Aditya Mittal

FM Mahitosh Dey scored a big upset against GM Aditya Mittal in the first round of 2nd Chessable Sunway Formentera Open 2023. The sole IM-norm holder, Mahitosh capitalized on his opportunity when his opponent went for a wrong exchange which made his king vulnerable. Later when he got a chance to fight back, he missed it and Mahitosh scored the full point. WIM Anastasiya Rakhmangulova (UKR) scored the only other upset of the round when she defeated the runner-up of 2nd Menorca Open, GM Pranav V. GMs Aravindh Chithambaram, Aryan Chopra, Leon Luke Mendonca, Pranav Anand, Karthik Venkataraman and Raja Rithvik R have made a winning start. This 17-year-old has built an AI driven software for visually impaired - Siddhanth Lohia

Siddhanth Lohia is just 17 years old and is studying in 11th grade at the SevenOaks boarding school in London. Two years ago after watching a video on ChessBase India, where we had Aryan Joshi and Soundarya Pradhan, two of India's top visually impaired chess players, talk about the issues with accessibility, Siddhanth made up his mind to do something special. He learnt about AI from the workshop that he did when he was 15. Putting that to use, he has come up with something truly special. It is a software which a visually impaired chess player can install on his machine and then just press a button and it can give him the position of the chess pieces on the board that is present on the screen. It is an extremely important innovation and can really help the visually impaired chess players take their game to the next level.

World Championship Game 7: Ding Liren crumbles in time trouble

The FIDE World Championship 2023 witnessed a fourth consecutive decisive game. However, this time it did not end in any of the previous manner. Ian Nepomniachtchi defeated Ding Liren on time. The position was lost too for the World no.3. He made a correct exchange sacrifice. However, he could not maintain a stronghold to split the point. Instead, he erred which allowed the World no.2 to capitalize on his opponent's mistake and win the game. The score is now 3-4 in Nepomniachtchi's favor. Four consecutive games were won by the player with the white pieces and wins were traded. Will we see the pattern to continue? Today is a rest day.
