Ilamparthi AR is a huge talent in Indian Chess, and the past year has been nothing short of amazing for the youngster. The Chennai boy became the World Under-14 Champion, he won Gold in Asian Under-18 Rapid 2022 in October and won his first Rapid Rating Open tournament in November 2022. In 2023, he became India's latest International Master! Ilamparthi's most recent success came at the WR Chess Masters Juniors event, where he won with a perfect score. We all know Samay Raina is one of the leading stand-up comedians in India, who also revolutionized chess in India. The 25-year-old comic has been regularly trying to improve his chess skills by playing online, commentating with IM Sagar Shah on various events, and following the games of the top players! One of Samay's favorite players is none other than the legend from Ukraine, Vassily Ivanchuk. New Delhi GP Round 2: Vaishali loses against Bibisara

The reigning two-time World Blitz Women's champion, IM Bibisara Assaubayeva scored the first win of New Delhi GP 2023. The Kazakhstan teenager got the better of IM Vaishali in the endgame when the latter misplaced her knight. It was a difficult endgame to defend in the first place. Meanwhile, GM Harika Dronvalli was held to a draw by WGM Zhu Jiner in a well contested draw. The remaining two games between Goryachkina-Dzagnidze and Polina-Humpy ended in draws in 20 moves or less. 20th Delhi GM Open 2023 R7: Neelash Saha holds Aravindh Chithambaram to a draw

Generally a player is not happy to get two consecutive black pieces especially against stronger opponents. After defeating GM Boris Savchenko in the sixth round, IM Neelash Saha faced GM Aravindh Chithambaram, once again with the same color. It was a solid draw after 30 moves in Round 7 of 20th Delhi GM Open 2023. IM Viani Antonio Dcunha made a minute mistake in the endgame against GM Volodar Murzin which seemed to have headed towards a draw. Thus, Volodar gained sole lead 7/7. Aravindh and Neelash are the only two Indians in pursuit at 6.5/7 each. New Delhi GP Round 1: Elisabeth withdraws, two exciting endgames

The first round of FIDE New Delhi GP 2023 witnessed four games. IM Vaishali got a walkover as the Germany no.1 Elisabeth Paehtz decided to withdraw from the event. Thus, the total withdraw count from this event is now four. First the Muzychuk sisters - Anna and Mariya, then Zhansaya Abdumalik and now Paehtz. The games between Humpy and Harika, Polina and Lagno, were relatively quiet draws. WGM Zhu Jiner had a great opportunity to beat GM Aleksandraw Goryachkina. The All-Georgian battle between GM Nana Dzagnidze and GM Nino Batsiashvili was an exciting back and forth battle where the latter repeated moves in a winning endgame. Diya Chowdhury wins Moulvibazar Deputy Commissioner Rating Open 2023

Diya Chowdhury scored an unbeaten 5.5/6 to win Moulvibazar Deputy Commissioner Rating Open 2023. She finished a half point ahead of the competition. Tutul Dhar and Golam Mostafa Bhuiyan made 5/6 each. They were placed second and third respectively according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund of the tournament was Tk 40000. The top three prizes were Tk 10000, 7000 and 5000 each respectively. The former National Schools Under-17 Girls champion, Diya has won 13th Manha's Castle Rating Open 2022 in December. 20th Delhi GM Open 2023 R5-6: Neelash and Viani crush Savchenko and Sethuraman

The top seed of the tournament, GM Sethuraman S P made some simple mistakes and got squashed by IM Viani Antonio Dcunha in the sixth round of 20th Delhi Open 2023. The 50th National Junior Open champion, IM Neelash Saha scored a crushing victory over GM Boris Savchenko. GM Stupak Kirill blundered his knight in the final moments of a rook and minor piece endgame which seemed to have headed towards a draw for a long time. Thus, Aravindh, Neelash, Viani and GM Volodar Murzin are four leaders at a perfect 6/6. A total of 15 players are trailing them by a half point at 5.5/6 each. An interview with the boy who scored 9/9 - GM Leon Mendonca

Leon Mendonca did something spectacular at the HIT Open 2023 in Slovenia. He started out as the top seed and was the favourite to win the tournament. But the way he dominated the proceedings was just phenomenal. He scored 9.0/9, gaining 26 Elo points, a rating performance of 3196, and winning the tournament with 2.5 extra points! How did Leon do it? Well in this interview we speak about three of his games - round 2 against Matic Lavrencic, round 5 against Aleksa Strikovic, and round 8 against Nigel Davies. We also speak about the psychological issues that Leon had to overcome in order to achieve what he has achieved in the last few days - two tournament victories, a gain of 38 Elo points and a Live rating of 2596. Check out the full interview below.

What is happening in New Delhi at the FIDE Grand Prix 2023

The FIDE Women's Grand Prix 2022-23 is into its third leg and it is a huge moment for Indian chess. That's because the first ever Grand Prix is happening in the country. However, the start to the event has been rocky. One of the participants Zhansaya Abdumalik has withdrawn from the tournament after reaching New Delhi and spending a day at the venue. What was the reason for the withdrawal? The players wrote an official letter to the FIDE President. FIDE responded back with an official statement as well. Meanwhile Zhansaya's country mate Bibisara Assaubayeva who is present at the venue wrote a post on social media voicing her opinions. This led to Zhansaya responding back and Elisabeth Paehtz joining in with her statement. It has created a lot of chaos before the start of the tournament. We try to put it all together in this article.

20th Delhi GM Open 2023 R4: Daaevik's defiance against Georgia no.1 Levan Pantsulaia

13-year-old Mukund H Agarwal scored a big win against GM Saptarshi Roy in Round 4 of 20th Delhi GM Open 2023. Another 13-year-old Daaevik Wadhawan shined brightly against Georgia no.1 GM Levan Pantsulaia. The reignin Delhi State Under-17 and Amateur champion's decision to play queenless middlegame almost worked out in his favor. The conversion of his advantage into a full point was not easy. The strong GM managed to avoid disaster by escaping with a draw. A total of 29 players have made a perfect start of 4/4. Today is the last double round of the tournament. The Personification of Perseverance - GM Sayantan Das

IM Sayantan Das became India's 81st Grandmaster on Sunday 26th February 2022. He defeated GM Alexander Motylev in the final round of 6th Cannes Open 2023 to cross 2500 and become a Grandmaster. He also became a clear champion. The 25-year-old scored his first GM-norm at 22nd Montcada Open 2014. Then he delivered a fantastic performance to secure his second GM-norm at 14th Delhi GM Open 2016. The final GM-norm was scored at Czech Open 2017 Pardubice. It has been a long wait since then. Anyone who has ever seen his game, was well aware of his GM-like strength. Senthil Maran wins 1st Xaverian Rating Open 2023

FM FT Senthil Maran K, Vignesh B, Kunal M, Marthandan K U and 11-year-old Jake Shanty scored 7/8 each at 1st Xaverian Rating Open 2023. Senthil edged past the remaining four on tie-breaks to become champion and the rest secured second to fifth place according to tie-breaks. Apart from Jake, top four remained undefeated. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹541000. The top three prizes were ₹75000, ₹50000 and ₹25000 along with a trophy each respectively. This was Senthil's first tournament triumph in almost 4.5 years. 20th Delhi GM Open 2023 R2-3: Sarvani Cheedella stuns Ratnakaran

13-year-old Sarvani Cheedella scored the first big upset of 20th Delhi GM Open 2023 when she defeated IM Ratnakaran K in the second round. Shreya G Hipparagi, Gaurav Sharma and Jeeva A S held GM Aleksej Aleksandrov, IM Anuj Shrivatri and GM Vitaly Teterev to a draw each respectively. In the third round, 14-year-old Jaidambareesh N R had a good opportunity to win against GM Lalit Rohit before the tables turned and it was the GM who could have pushed for a full point in the endgame.
