World Team 2022 QF: India knocks out France in tie-breaks

India defeated France 2.5-1.5 in the Quarterfinal tie-breaks to advance to the Semifinals of World Team Chess Championship 2022. Vidit Gujrathi set the tone for the day as he defeated the reigning World Blitz champion, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave on top board in the first duel. S L Narayanan won against Laurent Fressinet convincingly, while Nihal Sarin and K Sasikiran drew their respective games. France retorted in the second duel with same score 1-3. Thus, tie-breaks was enforced where Vidit drew with MVL, Nihal and S L Narayanan scored key victories to ensure India advances to the next stage. Muthaiah Al triumphs at Tirumala Tirupati Rapid Rating Open 2022

Top seed of the tournament IM Muthaiah Al, Saranya Y and FM Karthik Rajaa scored 8/9 each. Muthaiah clinched Tirumala Tirupati Rapid Rating Open 2022 due to better tie-breaks. Saranya and Karthik were adjudged second and third. Both Muthaiah and Karthik remained undefeated. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹500000. The top three prizes were ₹35000, ₹21000 and ₹15000 each. A total of 226 players took part in this event. This was Muthaiah's first Rapid Rating Open triumph of the year, second overall. Earlier, he won Radnickichess GM Round Robin 2 and earned his maiden GM-norm in July this year.

Asian Junior 2022 R1-7: Harshavardhan and Rakshitta in the lead

IM Harshavardhan G B defeated IM Utsab Chatterjee to emerge sole leader at Asian Junior Chess Championship 2022 Open after round 7. WIM Rakshitta Ravi won against WFM Mitra Asgharzadeh (IRI) to join the lead with WIM Ngoc Thuy Duong Bach (VIE). Both are at 5.5/7 each. Three players are trailing Harshavardhan with a 5/7 score. WFM Bhagyashree Patil and IM Avinash Ramesh won Silver and Bronze medal in the Rapid event in Under-18 Girls and Open category respectively. Harshavardhan will face Eric Labog Jr. (PHI) and Rakshittta will face compatriot Femil Chelladurai in the penultimate round. Round 8 starts tomorrow at 9 a.m. local time, 11:30 a.m. IST. World Team 2022 R5: Vidit and S L Narayanan propel India to the Quarterfinals

USA suffered a crushing defeat against India 1-3 in the fifth round of World Team Chess Championship 2022. Vidit Gujrathi and S L Narayanan scored emphatic victories over Hans Niemann and Varuzhan Akobian respectively. Both wins were scored with the black pieces. While Vidit launched a solid attack on the kingside, Narayanan showed his fantastic positional understanding. Nihal Sarin drew his game comfortably and Sethuraman S P escaped all difficulties to salvage a draw. India will face France in the Quarterfinals in a duel starting at 6:30 and 9:30 p.m. IST today. Mrittika Mallick is one of the most talented youngsters of Indian chess. She became the national under-14 champion in 2022. This allowed her to participate at the Asian Championships 2022 where she won two medals for India and also finished 4th at the World Youth Championships under-14. It is quite clear that the girl is gifted. However, she hails from a family that has modest finiancial means. Her father's yearly income is less than Rs.3 lakh. In order that Mrittika can continue her journey into the world of chess confidently and become better we are giving her the February YouTube memberships of Rs.55,026. Ilamparthi A R wins Mrs. Meera Memorial Rapid Rating Open 2022

Ilamparthi A R, IM Harikrishnan A Ra and Gugan G scored 8/9 each. The World Under-14 Open 2022 champion won Mrs. Meera Memorial Rapid Rating Open 2022 due to better tie-breaks. Harikrishnan and Gugan were placed second and third. Ilamparthi defeated the top seed and eventual runner-up in the sixth round. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹200000. The top three prizes were ₹25000 and a trophy, ₹20000 and ₹15000 each. A total of 340 players took part in this event. This was Ilamparthi's first Rapid Rating Open triumph in his career. He won this a fortnight after clinching Gold at Asian Under-18 Open Rapid 2022.

Commonwealth Chess Championships 2022 poised for an exciting finish

GM Mitrabha Guha drew with GM M R Lalit Babu in the penultimate round of Commonwealth Chess Championships 2022. IM P Shyam Nikhil defeated Sri Lanka no.1 IM L M S T De Silva to join Mitrabha in the lead. It will be Aravindh vs Shyam and Mitrabha vs Visakh in the final round. One of these two games is highly likely to produce a champion. Vivaan Vishal Shah, Shubhi Gupta and Gaurang Bagwe secured a Gold medal each in Under-10 Boys, Under-12 Girls and Under-14 Boys category respectively. Both WIMs Sakshi Chitlange and Bhagyashree Thipsay are at 5/8 each. They are closely followed by WGM Priyanka Nutakki 4.5/8. World Team 2022 R3-4: A mixed day for India

India defeated Azerbaijan in the third round of World Team Chess Championship 2022. Vidit Gujrathi's great turnaround against Shakhriyar Mamedyarov proved to be the key win which earned the team the first victory of the event. However, India suffered a crushing defeat against the 44th Olympiad Gold medalist team Uzbekistan. Even without the reigning World Rapid champion, Nodirbek Abdusattorov, the team is quite strong under the guidance of Ivan Sokolov. Commonwealth 2022 R7: Pranesh clinches Gold in Under-16 Boys with two rounds to spare

GM-elect IM Pranesh M secured the first Gold for India at the Commonwealth Chess Championships 2022. He scored 7/7 and left everyone far behind. The 15-year-old has also scored an impressive 5/7 in the Open event. GM Mitrabha Guha maintains his sole lead 6/7. He drew with IM P Shyam Nikhil in the seventh round. GM Aravindh, IM Shyam, GM Lalit and GM Visakh are in pursuit at 5.5/7. 13-year-old CM Gaurang Bagwe bounced back well by winning against IM Dushyant Sharma. He is the sole leader in both Under-14 and Under-20 Boys category and poised for a double Gold finish. Speaking of impressive, WIM Bhagyashree Thipsay won against National under-18 champion, CM Soham Kamotra. She is currently the top scorer among female participants 5/7. World Team 2022 R1-2: India starts with two draws

India drew both of their matches against Israel and Poland on the first day of World Team Chess Championship 2022. In both games, Vidit missed some good winning chances. Sethuraman could not find a slightly difficult to spot winning continuation in the first game and lost the second one. S L Narayanan saved the day for the team as he scored an important and the sole victory of the day for India in the second round. India is currently at third place 2/4 in Group B. MCCT Finals R7: Praggnanandhaa beats Arjun Erigaisi, So finishes second

Praggnanandhaa won against Arjun Erigaisi in the final round of Meltwater Champions Chess Tour Finals 2022. Both of them scored 9/21 each to finish fifth and sixth respectively. They also earned US$ 22500 each. The rematch between them will take place starting next week at Tata Steel Chess India 2022 Rapid and Blitz which begins on Tuesday 29th November 2022. Anish Giri defeated Wesley So to finally end his four-match losing streak. Still it did not help his overall standings as So finished second 13/21 and Giri last 6/21. Magnus Carlsen applauds Indian chess talents and fans

Magnus Carlsen is in scintillating form in San Francisco as he not only won the Champions Chess Tour Finals, but the entire 2022 event. In round 6 he played an excellent match against Praggnanandhaa to win 2.5-0.5. After the match ended, we were able to get Magnus on the livestream to discuss some of the critical moments from the match. The world champion also showed us a very interesting position that he had studied at a training camp recently. All of this happened at 4.30 a.m. Indian time! A very special interview that ended with Magnus praising the work that ChessBase India is doing and giving a big shout out to the Indian talents and fans!  

India starts as the top seed in Group B at World Teams 2022 starting today

Three months after winning the Bronze medal at the 44th Chess Olympiad 2022, Indian men's team will start their FIDE World Team Championship campaign on Sunday 20th November at Jerusalem, Israel. The tournament format is same as last year's World Women Team Championship 2021. The top four teams from each group will advance to the Quarterfinals. India finished at fourth place in the previous edition in 2019, they would definitely like to better that finish this time. Commonwealth 2022 R5-6: Mitrabha regains his sole lead

GM Mitrabha Guha regained his sole lead by defeating GM Venkatesh M R in the sixth round of Commonwealth Chess Championships 2022. He moved to 5.5/6. Currently GM Aravindh Chithambaram and IM P Shyam Nikhil are the only two players trailing by a half point at 5/6 each. Both Shyam and Aravindh halted GM-elect IM Pranesh M and CM Gaurang Bagwe's phenomenal run by defeating them respectively. WGM-elect WIM Sakshi Chitlange lost to GM Visakh N R after scoring a win against GM Neelotpal Das in the fourth round. WIM Bhagyashree Thipsay and Sakshi are currently top female scorer at 4/6 each.
