Sayantan Das wins 1st Bella Italia Masters 2022, Diptayan third

IM Sayantan Das scored 7/9 to win 1st International Festival Bella Italia of Lignano Sabbiadoro Masters 2022. He finished a half point ahead of the field. Four players - IM Francesco Sonis (ITA), GM Diptayan Ghosh, GM Visakh N R and Aaron Deepak (USA) scored 6.5/9 each. They were placed second to fourth according to tie-breaks. Only Diptayan remained undefeated among the top ten finishers. WIM Mounika Akshaya was the sole woman among the top ten. She scored 5.5/9 to finish ninth. The top three prizes were €1500 and a trophy, €1000 and €600 each respectively. Sayantan's rating is now 2489 which means he is 11 points away from becoming India's next Grandmaster.

Then Hans Niemann told his entire story in a post-match interview of various rumored allegations, Carlsen's withdrawal tweet which had insinuations, what Nakamura said on his stream, chess.com rescinding their invitation to the Global Championship, why his accent changes during interviews, how he only adapted unfair means as a 12-year-old and afterwards never cheated in any online game. He also mentioned that he never cheated in any over-the-board games in his career, being ready to play the rest of the tournament in any condition he is required to ensure zero electronic transmission to him. Two more players were added later on - Arjun Erigaisi and Leon Mendonca. All of these youngsters have performed phenomenally well in the last 18 months. That's the reason why WACA has organized an event in Bangalore on the 7th of September 2022 at 7 p.m to celebrate the achievements of these youngsters. Shubhi Gupta impressive at 2nd Aparna Dutta Memorial Rating Open 2022

Top two seeds of the tournament - GM Neuris Delgado Ramirez (PAR) and GM Cristhian Camilo Rios (COL) scored 9.5/10 each. Neuris won 2nd Aparna Dutta Memorial Rating Open on tie-breaks, Cristhian was placed second. Reigning National Under-12 Girls and National Amateur U-2000 Women champion, 11th seeded Shubhi Gupta secured third position. She scored an impressive 8/10. Abhrojyoty Nath also scored the same, he was placed fourth. Six out of top ten finishers were below 14 years of age. Total prize fund of the tournament was ₹275000. The fourth round of Sinquefield Cup 2022 had something unprecedented. The world champion announced his withdrawal from the tournament via a tweet. It surprised everyone as Carlsen did not reveal the reason. He also added a cryptic clip of Jose Mourinho who is known to be a successful football coach. He is seen to be said, "I prefer really not to speak. If I speak, I am in trouble." There are a lot of rumors and theories circling around the web. Whatever reason is behind the world no.1's withdrawal, it is his prerogative to speak about it, if and when he wants to. Aravindh Chithambaram clinches 22nd Dubai Open 2022, Praggnanandhaa third

Aravindh Chithambaram drew with Praggnanandhaa in the final round to become the clear champion of 22nd Dubai Open 2022. He scored an unbeaten 7.5/9 and finished a half point ahead of the field. This is sixth overall, fifth individual triumph of the year out of the eight tournaments he played. The last tournament he played was over 1.5 months ago which he won at 41st Benasque Open 2022. He performed at 2705 and gained 11.4 Elo rating points. Five players scored 7/9. They are - GM Alexandr Predke, GM Praggnanandhaa, GM Abhijeet Gupta, IM Sammed Jaykumar Shete and GM Sethuraman S P. They secured second to sixth place according to tie-breaks. Sammed is the only IM among top seven finishers. Total prize fund was US$ 50000. Hans Niemann scored the biggest victory of his career in the third round of Sinquefield Cup 2022. He defeated the world champion, Magnus Carlsen by outplaying him in the endgame with the black pieces, grabbed sole lead and crossed 2700 in the live ratings too. The top junior of USA drew polarizing reactions when he said, "Chess speaks for itself" after he beat the World no.1 at FTX Crypto Cup 2022. Yesterday, his chess truly spoke when he beat the world no.1 in a Classical game and showed that his first win was not a fluke, he can certainly hang with the world's best. Raunak Sadhwani second at Julius Baer Challenge 2022, advances to the Tour Finals

GM Andrey Esipenko scored 20/24 on the second day to finish with 41/45 and win Challengers Chess Tour 2022 Julius Baer Challenge. He scored 13 wins and only two draws, remained undefeated. GM Raunak Sadhwani scored 31/45 to finish second. Both of them have qualified to the Tour Finals which will take place on 29th and 30th October 2022. Five players scored 27/45. IM Aditya Mittal, GM Leon Luke Mendonca and IM Prraneeth Vuppala secured fourth, fifth and seventh place according to the tie-breaks. In a battle of the reigning National champions, Aravindh Chithambaram defeated Arjun Erigaisi to emerge sole leader 7/8 at 22nd Dubai Open 2022. He will face Praggnanandhaa in Round 9. Aravindh must win the last round to become a clear champion, while a draw would leave his fate in Predke's hands. If Praggnanandhaa wins, he would have to hope for Predke to draw or lose, as his tie-break score is inferior to the top seed. Seven Indians out of eleven players are at 6/8. IM Prraneeth Vuppala and GM Leon Luke Mendonca made an impressive start 15/21. Both of them scored four wins and three draws each. They are undefeated so far. GM Raunak Sadhwani scored 12/21. WGM Vantika Agrawal 10/21, IM Aditya Mittal 8/21 and WIM Savitha Shri B 6/21 have a lot to catch up in the last eight rounds. Since it's a blitz tournament, a lot can change. Six Indian juniors will feature in Julius Baer Challenge starting today

The Challengers Chess Tour 2022 season starts today with Julius Baer Challenge. 16-players including six Indians - GM Raunak Sadhwani, GM Leon Luke Mendonca, IM Aditya Mittal, IM Prraneeth Vuppala, WGM Savitha Shri B and WGM Vantika Agrawal will take part in the first tournament. The Total prize fund for each tournament is US$10,000. The format of the tournament has been changed from Rapid to Blitz. The total prize fund for the entire season will be $30000 + wildcard for Champions Chess Tour 2023 and a $10000 match against the previous season winner, GM Praggnanandhaa in Tel Aviv, Israel. Arjun Erigaisi drew with Alexandr Predke in the seventh round of 22nd Dubai Open 2022. Praggnanandhaa defeated Vladimir Akopian (USA) and Aravindh Chithambaram checkmated Kazakhstan no.1 Rinat Jumabayev in 25 moves. All four of them are now at 6/7 each. Praggnanandhaa will face Predke and Arjun will be up against Aravindh in the penultimate round. Four players are in the chase at 5.5/7. Abhijeet Gupta and Sethuraman are the two Indians among them. South Point reclaims 14th Chessmate Inter School Team Rapid Rating 2022 after five years

South Point High School A defeated their B team to clinch the 14th Chessmate - Inter School Rapid Rating Team 2022. Since the defending champion, Garden High School did not participate, a new champion was guaranteed to be crowned. South Point A finished first 13/14, followed by Aditya Academy Senior Secondary at second place 12/14. Both teams remained undefeated. Delhi Public School Ruby Park secured second place 10/14 due to better tie-breaks. Among the Girls teams, Lakshmipat Singhania Academy won the first place in the Girls category for the fourth consecutive year. Arjun Erigaisi convincingly won against the Kazakhstan no.1 Rinat Jumabayev to get himself in the lead. Top seed of 22nd Dubai Open 2022, GM Alexandr Predke ended FM Ayush Sharma's unbeaten run to become the coleader. Arjun will inevitably face Predke in Round 7. They both are at 5.5/6 each. Praggnanandhaa, Sahaj Grover and Aravindh Chithambaram defeated GM Shardul Gagare, GM Raunak Sadhwani and Vaibhav Jayant Raut to trail the leaders by a half point each.
