Radjabov once again completely dominated Dubov as he beat him twice consecutively to advance to the Finals of Champions Chess Tour. Aronian beat Vachier-Lagrave in the third game after making two draws to secure his place in the Finals. Radjabov vs Aronian will definitely be an interesting final as both of them secured convincing victories in the knockout stage. Finals will begin tonight Saturday 2nd January from 7:30 p.m. IST. ChessBase India's year 2020 in rewind

What was the work done by the entire ChessBase India team in 2020? 750 articles were published on the website, 924 videos created on the YouTube channel, over 150 million views, 25 online tournaments with close to Rs.16,00,000 disbursed as prize money, over 32 lakh rupees raised for charity and hosting several events with an aim to empower chess professionals and enthusiasts. Over the board tournaments hardly happened during the year, however, each and every member of the ChessBase India team worked throughout 2020 to power chess in the country and the world! Here's a rewind of the entire year that gives you an overview of the work done by ChessBase India from the 1st of January to 31st of December 2020.

Airthings Masters SF Day 1: Radjabov and Aronian win the first set

Radjabov halted Dubov's fantastic momentum of the previous day as he beat him 3-1 in the first set of Champions Chess Tour Airthings Masters Semi-Finals. In all four games Dubov did not get any good opportunity against the 2019 FIDE World Cup winner. Aronian struck first against Vachier-Lagrave and then he made two draws after missing a winning chance in the second game. The French man could not salvage a draw in the fourth game after the Armenian blundered in the endgame. Airthings Masters QF Day 2: Dubov eliminates Carlsen

Dubov and Aronian secured their Semi-Final spots with emphatic victories over the world champion Carlsen and Speed King Nakamura respectively in the Quarter-Finals of Champions Chess Tour Airthings Masters. Dubov caused the biggest upset of the event as he beat Carlsen twice on the same day in three games. Aronian also played fantastic and eliminated Nakamura by beating him in consecutive games. Skilling Open winner So and newly crowned Russian champion Nepomniachtchi had unfortunate exits from the event as both of them drew their respective Armageddon games but got eliminated due to technicality. Breaking: Leon Mendonca becomes India's 67th GM

In a year where chess tournaments have been almost non-existent, India managed to get two GMs! G. Akash was India's 66th grandmaster and now it's Leon Mendonca who has achieved the coveted title on 30th December 2020 to become India's 67th GM. Leon's story is one of grit, determination and persistence. Being locked out in Europe and away from his family for 9 months, Leon made the best possible use of the situation, playing 16 tournaments, pumping up his Elo by 140 points and achieving all three GM norms in under three months. Airthings Masters QF Day 1: Advantage Aronian and Vachier-Lagrave

Aronian and Vachier-Lagrave won the first set of the Quarter-Finals against Nakamura and So respectively in Champions Chess Tour Airthings Masters. Both Nakamura and So must win the second set to keep their Semi-Final hopes alive. Carlsen-Dubov clash ended up in a 2-2 draw before both of them scoring a victory over the other. Only Radjabov-Nepomniachtchi is yet to have a single decisive result in the knockout stage. Can Nakamura and So make a comeback like they did in the Skilling Open? Airthings Masters Day 3: Harikrishna, Grischuk, Giri and Anton get eliminated

Harikrishna, Grischuk, Giri and Anton get eliminated from Champions Chess Tour Airthings Masters as they could not finish in the top eight of the Preliminary Stage. Carlsen finished the top of the table with 6.5/11 followed by So and Nakamura also finishing with the same score. Carlsen will face Dubov, Radjabov against Nepomniachtchi, Nakamura vs Aronian and Vachier-Lagrave will go against So in the Quarter-Finals which starts tonight Tuesday 29th December from 7:30 p.m. IST. Airthings Masters Day 2: Carlsen joins the six-pack lead

Six players share the lead at the end of day 2 of Champions Chess Tour Airthings Masters. Dubov, Nakamura, Aronian, Carlsen, Radjabov and So are in the lead with 4.5/8 each respectively. Harikrishna started the day with a loss against Giri then he drew with Grischuk and Nakamura. In the final round of the day, Harikrishna had a good chance to push for a win against Nepomniachtchi but he settled for a draw. Carlsen scored his first victory of the event over Dubov and then drew the remaining three games. Round 9 continues tonight Monday 28th December from 7:30 p.m. IST. Airthings Masters Day 1: Harikrishna holds Carlsen to a draw

Five players share the lead at the end of day 1 of Champions Chess Tour Airthings Masters. Nakamura, Aronian, Dubov, Radjabov and So are in the lead with 2.5/4 each respectively. Harikrishna held Carlsen to a draw after they repeated moves in the fourth round. Both of them drew all their games on the first day. Only seven decisive games were played out of 24, so the winning percentage on day 1 is a staggering 29.17%. Daniil Dubov played a fantastic game against David Anton Guijarro to score a win and be in the shared lead. Round 5 continues tonight Sunday 27th December from 7:30 p.m. IST. World Chess Championship to have title sponsor for the first time next year

Generally when we think about a magnum opus event of a particular sport, a title sponsor is almost always associated with it. Be it FIFA, ICC, F1 or any other sporting event, the association of Pepsi, Coca-Cola, Redbull, Samsung, Adidas, Reebok, Puma, Castrol and various other brand with such sporting events have almost become synonymous to the sports fans and followers. FIDE for the first time is open to the idea of having a title sponsor for next year's World Championship. If the last nine months of the online chess boom has taught us anything, then a title sponsorship for FIDE World Championship is definitely going to be a right step in the forward direction. Harikrishna will star in the Champions Chess Tour Airthings Masters

Pentala Harikrishna played a pivotal role in Team India's historic Gold medal victory in FIDE Online Olympiad 2020 few months ago. He had a fantastic performance in Biel Masters and he also beat the World Champion in Saint Louis Blitz. The first Major of the 2020-21 Champions Chess Tour is the Airthings Masters with a prize fund of US$ 200,000. Former World Rapid Champion Dubov and Harikrishna are the wild card entrants of the tournament. Skilling Open winner Wesley So will be back in action along with Carlsen, Nakamura, Aronian, Nepomniachtchi, Grischuk, Giri, Radjabov and Anton. Grischuk and Anton won the public vote to join this event.
