KIIT R08: S.Nitin and Nguyen Duc Hoa lead with 7.0/8

The great thing about the KIIT International Open 2017 is the number of fighting games on the top boards. Out of the top 10 boards, we had 8 decisive encounters. And this meant that the number of leaders was now down to just two. S.Nitin from India and Nguyen Duc Hoa from Vietnam now lead the tournament with 7.0/8. They will face off against each other in the penultimate round. Five players follow them with 6.5/8. Illustrated round 8 report from Bhubaneshwar with excellent pictures by Amruta Mokal.

One year ago - Pragga became the youngest IM in the world!

On 29th May 2016, R. Praggnanandhaa won his ninth round game at the KIIT International Open, Bhubaneshwar against Al Muthaiah. This win secured him his third IM norm and as he had already surpassed 2400 on the rating list, he became the youngest International Master in the World at the age of ten years and ten months. We cannot believe that it is already one year since this feat. Sagar Shah talks about an incident with Pragga at the Aeroflot Open and the reason why he thinks the boy will become one of the best in the world. KIIT R05+06: The story of two brilliant combinations!

Chess like music, like love has the power to make man happy! And the chess that was on show at rounds five and six of the KIIT International Open 2017 in Bhubaneshwar was simply delightful. Of course, there were many excellent games played, but two combinations that stood out, were the ones executed by a 42-year-old experienced Bangladeshi grandmaster, and other by a 10-year-old talent from Mumbai. Well, what can we say, Caissa doesn't really care for the age, only good moves!

KIIT R04: CRG Krishna shows his class; beats the top seed

Until three rounds top seed Farrukh Amonatov looked unbeatable. He was playing some great chess. However, in the fourth round he found his match in CRG Krishna. The Indian IM played a superb game, without any errors to hand the Tajik GM his first defeat in India after a long time! We have the annotated game along with video interviews with not only Krishna but also Diptayan Ghosh. Five players now lead with 100% score. Illustrated report.

The KIIT International Open 2017 with 17 GMs and 21 IMs out of the 251 participants is a super strong tournament. The top seed is rated 2628 and there are 62 players above 2200. KIIT R02+03: Ten players on perfect score

Three rounds have been completed at the 10th KIIT International 2017. Out of the 251 players that are in action, only ten are on a perfect score with 3.0/3. In this report we analyze a nice win by the top seed Farrukh Amonatov, and we also see Diptayan Ghosh's endgame magic. Also worth noting is the crazy game between Utkal Ranjan Sahoo and Debashis Das. All in all it's a report loaded with chess analysis and lots of pictures!

Karnataka State Open: Viani is the champion

Karnataka State Open has a distinction for having the highest prize fund for a state selection tournament in India. 205 players participated in the event to fight for top four spots. KIIT R01: Chandreyee Hajra stuns Padmini Rout

How exciting can first round of an open tournament really be? Players with a rating gap of nearly 400 points were pitted against each other at the 10th KIIT International Open 2017. Yet, we had four GMs who were held to a draw and many more IMs joining the casualty list. The biggest upset of the day was definitely the victory of 17-year-old from Kolkata Chandreyee Hajra over three-time national champion Padmini Rout. We have the game with complete analysis and pictorial illustrations.

Many people complain that solving studies doesn't help the practical player because the positions that are composed are not close to a real game situation. Well, in the third edition of our "Study the studies" section we have a position that is akin to a real game. 10th KIIT International about to begin!

It is one of the most prestigious events in India. The 10th edition of KIIT International chess festival begins from the 26th of May 2017. 17 grandmasters and 21 International Masters will fight it out in field of 246 players from 12 countries for the first prize of Rs.2,00,000. The Zalakaros Open 2017 has witnessed a hilarious incident in the eighth round. World's youngest IM Praggnanandhaa R. was playing China's Li Bo, when the latter made an illegal move. Unfortunately, Pragg did not notice this and went on to lose. Can he appeal against the game?

Ravi Teja takes it all in Sangli!

Playing his first tournament in India after marriage IM Ravi Teja travelled to Sangli with his wife. Both of them took part in the 50th edition of the Babukaka Shirgaonkar tournament. Ravi claimed the top prize of Rs.1 lakh, while Anusha was the best woman player! Our 12-year-old reporter Avathanshu Bhat was in Sangli and has sent us a report loaded with chess content. In it you can find an interesting idea against the London played by Ravi Teja and some excellent annotations by the young upcoming talent of Mumbai Aryan Polakhare.
