Tata Steel 03: Two draws for Indians, brilliances by Wei Yi and Rapport

It was a day of two draws for the Indian players, but not uneventful ones. Adhiban's London System was quite hard for Levon Aronian to crack, while Harikrishna gave Eljanov some anxious moments before the game ended in a draw. Two youngsters Wei Yi and Richard Rapport played some excellent chess but had contrasting results. Wei Yi was rewarded with a full point, while Richard lost a better position to Wesley So. Sarasadat Khademalsharieh, better known as Sara Khadem, is a 19-year-old International Master from Iran. Women in Iran are traditionally banned from attending many sporting events. On the streets, women need to cover their heads. On the playing field, it is the same. Al Jazeera, a Qatar-based news network had a chat with Khadem, in which she discussed chess in Iran. The first round of the Tata Steel Masters 2017 began on Saturday with some exciting chess. Adhiban had clear winning chances against Loek van Wely, but couldn't convert it into a full point. Harikrishna, on the other hand, had a pretty dull draw against Levon Aronian in the theoretical lines of the Marshall. On Sunday, Adhiban and Harikrishna will face off against each other. Delhi 08: Amonatov leads by a full point; Indians smash GMs

With two rounds to go Farrukh Amonatov has cemented his position as the sole leader of the Delhi International 2017. He beat Vitaly Sivuk and now leads with a full point over the field. Seven players follow him on 6.5/8. Indians played excellently against International grandmasters as Swayams beat Niaz Murshed, Niranjan got the better of Adam Horvath and Saptarshi Roy defeated Attila Czebe. Overnight leader Karthikeyan Murali, who was playing some phenomenal chess, lost to the top seed Farrukh Amonatov. This make Amonatov the sole leader with 6.5/7. Ju Wenjun won the tournament in Khanty Mansiysk and with it the overall women's Grand Prix as well. This gave her the right to challenge the World Championship winner in Tehran 2017. ChessBase India's Niklesh Jain got in touch with the women's world number two and asked her questions not only about her Grand Prix victory, but also about the hijab controversy, Hou Yifan's decision of pulling out and her personal ambitions in chess.

Murali Karthikeyan perfect with 6.0/6, Sairaj Chittal wins B category

Murali Karthikeyan played some flawless chess on Thursday to power into sole lead with 6.0/6. He beat Lalith Babu and Andrei Deviatkin. The Indian GM is already gaining 16.7 Elo points and has an astronomical performance of 3164! He is followed on 5.5/6 by Farrukh Amonatov. They both play against each other today and you can follow the live game here. In the B group Sairaj Chittal of Mumbai emerged as the champion and went back with Rs.2,00,000.

Child chess prodigy hopes to become youngest ever grandmaster aged 11

Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa learnt to play chess before he could even read and now wants to take the coveted record from Russian Sergey Karjakin. When little Pragga went to London to play in the London Chess Classic, correspondents from various British newspapers queued up to interview him. When Adhiban won the Tata Steel Challengers in 2016, the entire country erupted with joy. Not only because he had won the strong event, but because he had qualified for the Tata Steel Masters 2017.
