Women's Premier 06: Padmini continues to lead but Viji close on the heels

Padmini won a well-played technical game where she nursed her advantage from the opening to victory. Viji was worse and fighting for dear life, but she turned the tables after some sub-par moves by Mary Ann Gomes to win as well. Padmini leads the event with 5.0/6 while Viji is close on the heels with 4.5/6. Nihal Sarin chose Padmini's clinical performance as the game of the day and analyzed it for the readers.

National Amateur set for a tense finish

The SBI Life National Amateur 2016 is taking place from the 5th to the 11th of November in Mumbai. The tournament was dominated from the start by CM Aditya Mittal who was off to a flier with 7.0/7. However, in the ninth round he suffered a defeat against Raahul V.S. With two rounds to go Raahul V.S. and Omkar Kadav lead the event with 8.0/9. Two more players are right behind them on 7.5/9. Bihar's First Grandmaster

Bihar never had a grandmaster of its own. In fact, it still does not have any. We had reported some weeks back that 16-year-old Kumar Gaurav had become the Indian Junior Chess Champion despite starting as the 42nd seed. Almost all the winners of the Indian Junior Championships in the past 15 years have become strong Grandmasters today. Most notable are Viswanathan Anand, Pentala Harikrishna, Abhijeet Gupta, and more. But Gaurav will never become a grandmaster without our help! Let us help him become the first grandmaster from Bihar!
