It was not that easy but then again at this level, there will only be so many chances. GM Sundararajan Kidambi analyzes Game 7 in detail. Qatar Masters 2024 R2: Arjun Erigaisi escapes jaws of defeat against Murtas Kazhgaleyev

When you face World no.4 at a strong event like Qatar Masters 2024, you have to take every chance you get. GM Murtas Kazhgaleyev (KAZ) was aware of it. He played enterprising chess against GM Arjun Erigaisi. At one point, the Kazakh GM got himself a winning opportunity. He missed it. Later, Arjun got a much smaller chance in the endgame. The game eventually ended in a draw. IM Goutham Krishna H and IM Ayush Sharma held 44th Olympiad Gold medalist, GM Shamsiddin Vokhidov (UZB) and GM Haik Martirosyan (ARM) to a draw each respectively. Ilamparthi on the verge of winning Singapore Open 2024

IM Jan Klimkowski (POL) drew with GM Aleksandar Indjic (SRB) to maintain his lead 6.5/8 at Singapore Open 2024. GM Pa Iniyan lost to GM Shanglei Lu (CHN). IM Ilamparthi A R defeated the reigning National champion, GM Karthik Venkataraman. Klimkowski's draw against the newly crowned European individual champion, allowed Shanglei and Ilamparthi to catch up with him 6.5/8. Shanglei and Klimkowski face each other in the final round. If they draw, Ilamparthi can also afford to draw to become the champion as he has the best tie-breaks out of the three. World Championship Game 8: An adventurous draw

The eighth game of FIDE World Championship Match 2024, presented by Google, was an absolute thriller. The defending world champion, employed his trusty 1.c4 for the first time in this match. However, the Challenger managed to surprise him with 7...f6. Obviously it was part of his deep preparation. Gukesh thanked his team for coming up with it and hoped that his team will continue to surprise his opponent with such unique moves in the opening. Later, it was the teenager who first got a winning opportunity. He misplaced his knight into a pin which soon fell into a cross pin. He lost an exchange. However, Ding Liren wanted to repeat moves instead of pushing for a win. Gukesh refused as he did not feel his position to be that bad, eventually the game ended in a draw. Gawain Jones (ENG) emerged sole leader 3.5/5 at XTX Markets London Chess Classic 2024 Elite. Vidit Gujrathi and Shakhriyar Mamedyarov (AZE) are in pursuit at 3/5 each. Vidit drew with Jones in Round 3. Then he missed winning chances in the next two games against Michael Adams (ENG) and Shreyas Royal (ENG). In the Masters section, GM Raunak Sadhwani is currently sharing the lead with GM Vignir Vatnar Stefansson (ISL) and IM Marcus R Harvey (ENG) 5/6. Today is a rest day. Qatar Masters 2024 R1: Moksh Amit Doshi stuns Nodirbek Yakubboev

IM Moksh Amit Doshi scored a huge win over the defending champion, GM Nodirbek Yakubboev (UZB) in the first round of Qatar Masters 2024. World Rapid 2021 champion and the current World no.6, GM Nodirbek Abdusattorov (UZB) suffered a shocking defeat against FM Reza Mahdavi (IRI). It was indeed a rough start for the Nodirbeks. IM Vantika Agrawal and IM Ethan Vaz held GM Vladislav Artemiev and GM Ngoc Truong Son Nguyen (VIE) to a draw each respectively. Top seed of the tournament and World no.4, GM Arjun Erigaisi scored a comfortable victory. Total 138 players including 43 GMs, 49 IMs, 6 WGMs and 2 WIMs are taking part from 24 countries across the world in Open A (≥2300) category with an average rating 2432. IM Jan Klimkowski (POL) emerged sole leader 6/7 at Singapore Open 2024. He is followed closely by ten players at 5.5/7 each. GM Karthik Venkataraman, GM Pa Iniyan and IM Ilamparthi A R are three Indians among them. Ilamparthi drew both of his games against GM Shanglei Lu (CHN) and GM Vahap Sanal (TUR). Karthik defeated IM Poh Yu Tian (MAS) and drew with IM Yeoh Li Tan (MAS) to get into the championship picture. Among the women, IM Teodora Injac (SRB) is having a great tournament. D Gukesh missed a great opportunity to beat Ding Liren and gain lead at FIDE World Championship Match 2024, presented by Google. It was certainly not an easy win but at this level he has to seize every single opportunity he is presented. However, he feels good about the game because he outplayed his opponent in the opening and middlegame. The world champion also accepted that fact. Gukesh realizes that he needs to work on converting advantages into a full point. The match has now completed halfway. The most important part is, the Challenger focuses on the positives instead of dwelling on mistakes and outcomes. The next half is certainly going to be interesting. Aaryan Varshney dominates 1st Dewas Rapid Rating Open 2024

IM Aaryan Varshney scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win 1st Dewas Rapid Rating Open 2024. He finished a half point ahead of the field. CM Madhvendra Pratap Sharma and GM Sriram Jha scored 8/9 each. They secured second and third place respectively according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund was ₹200000. The top three prizes were ₹25000, ₹15000 and ₹10000 along with a trophy each. The two-day nine-round rapid rating tournament was organized by Dewas District Chess Association at San Thome Academy in Dewas, Madhya Pradesh on 16th and 17th November 2024. 15th KIIT GM Open R1: Vineel and Suthershun draw with GMs

Vineel Radha Karthik Chukka and Suthershun A drew with GM Evgeniy Podolchenko and GM Jacek Stopa (POL) respectively in thefirst round. The 15th edition of KIIT International Chess Festival witnesses the participation of 265 players including 12 GMs, 12 IMs, a WGM and 3 WIMs in Category A from 14 countries across the world including India. The Category B (Below 1900) has a total participation of 266 players. The total prize fund of the festival is ₹6000000, almost double of the last edition. It was the only decisive game among the leaders' pack. He is now followed by 20 players including five Indians - GM Pa Iniyan, GM Karthik Venkataraman, GM Neelotpal Das, WGM Srija Seshadri and IM Sathvik Adiga. ​HelpChess Foundation raises Rs. 1 lakh for the Chennai Grandmasters Scholarship

India's chess future is shining brightly, with young talents breaking records on the global stage. Unfortunately, many players face financial barriers that prevent them from achieving their goals. The HelpChess Foundation is committed to helping such players through various initiatives. One such initiative, the 'Chennai Grandmasters Scholarship', was announced during the live streams of the event. It was revealed that all donations received through HelpChess during the tournament would directly support players in need. The response was overwhelming, with over Rs.1 lakh raised from 25 generous contributors. Manoj Samudra is the top donor who received signed cards from the drawing of the lots ceremony by all the players of Chennai Grandmasters 2024.
