Sina Movahed triumphs at Baku Open 2024, Abhimanyu Puranik second and Aditya Mittal third

Four players - IM Sina Movahed (IRI), GM Abhimanyu Puranik, GM Aditya Mittal and GM S L Narayanan scored 7/9 each at Baku Open 2024 Group A. Sina won the tournament due to better tie-break score. Abhimanyu, Aditya and Narayanan secured second, third and fourth place respectively. Abhimanyu's sole loss of the event was against the eventual champion, Sina. Aditya remained undefeated. Top seed of the tournament, Narayanan started with a loss. Then he won six games in-a-row including a win over the champion, Sina in Round 7. IM Ilamparthi A R and GM Shyam Sundar M scored 6.5/9 each. They were placed eighth and ninth respectively. The total prize fund of the tournament was US$ 50000. Savreen Kaur wins AICF Smart Girls Rating Tournament 2024 Jammu

Savreen Kaur and Sonali Manhas scored 7.5/9 each at AICF Smart Girls Rating Tournament 2024 in Bhaderwah, Doda, Jammu and Kashmir. Savreen won the tournament due to better tie-break score. Sonali secured second place. Their final round battle against each other ended in a draw. Last year's winner - Alankrita Sharma and top seed Divya Bhavani Chembrolu scored 7/9 each. They were placed third and fourth. Total prize fund of the tournament was ₹25000. The top three prizes were ₹5000, ₹4000 and ₹3000 along with a trophy each. The tournament was held from 21st to 25th June at Hotel Thakur Villa in Bhaderwah, Doda, Jammu and Kashmir. It was organized by Bhaderkashi Chess Association District Doda. This was Savreen's first rating tournament triumph of her career. Alexander Reprintsev dominates 19th Golden Prague Blitz Open 2024, Aarav A third

IM Alexander Reprintsev (UKR) scored an unbeaten 10/11 to win 19th Golden Prague Blitz Rating Open 2024. The 65-year-old veteran finished a full point ahead of the field. FM Kanan Hajiyev (AZE) scored sole 9/11 to finish second. 10-year-old Aarav A scored 8.5/11 to finish third. The boy drew with the eventual champion Reprintsev in the seventh round and defeated the second runner-up, Hajiyev in Round 6. The top three prizes were - CZK 2200, 1500 and 1000 along with a trophy each respectively. The 30th edition of the Abu Dhabi International Chess Festival is here! This esteemed chess festival consisting of several different tournaments including a very strong Masters event will take place from 14th-25th August 2024 at Abu Dhabi. 'The Lighting Kid' Vishy Anand dominates 13th Quenza Blitz Open 2024 with a 3123 performance

GM Vishy Anand scored a perfect 9/9 to win 13th Quenza Blitz Rating Open 2024. He finished a staggering 1.5 points ahead of the field. GM Maxime Lagarde (FRA) and GM Sergey Fedorchuk (UKR) scored 7.5/9 each. They secured second and third place according to tie-breaks. Anand faced players of all ranges, from 11-year-old kid to 68-year-old veteran. He also faced a top woman from Slovania. Anand's fastest victory was a 16-move miniature against the eventual runner-up, Lagarde in Round 7. In the penultimate round, he registered a a 24-move win against GM Laurent Fressinet (FRA). Total prize fund of the tournament was €20000. The top three prizes were €3000, €2000 and €1500 along with a trophy each. FM Vincent Blom (NED) scored 8.5/9 to win Arona Chess Festival Blitz Rating Open 2024. He finished a half point ahead of the field. GM Bartosz Socko (POL) scored sole 8/9 to finish second. WGM Savitha Shri B and Miguoel Admiraal (NED) scored 6.5/9. They were placed second and third according to tie-breaks. Total prize fund of the tournament was €20000. The top three prizes were: 1st - ChessBase 17 Premium + Fritz 19, 2nd - Komodo Dragon 3.2 + Kasparov: How to play Najdorf and 3rd - Fritz 19 + Kasparov: How to play Najdorf. Aakanksha Hagawane wins Gold at FISU World University Mind Sports 2024 Women, Silver for Saina Salonika

WIM Aakanksha Hagawane, WIM Saina Salonika, WIM Alicja Sliwicka (POL) and WGM Julia Antolak (POL) scored 6.5/9 each at FISU World University Championship Mind Sports 2024. Aakanksha won Gold due to better tie-break score. Saina secured Silver and Alicja Bronze. Both Aakanksha and Saina remained undefeated. They are the only two Indians to earn medals. The eventual Gold medalist, Aakanksha drew with both runners-up. Saina however, handed the eventual Bronze medal winner, Alicja, her sole loss of the event in the second round. This was Aakanksha's first tournament triumph of the year. FIDE World Rapid and Blitz Championships 2024 come to New York

FIDE World Rapid and Blitz championship 2024 will take place in the last week of December in New York, December. This will be the first time ever when World Rapid and Blitz will come to the Big Apple. The official announcement of the event was made at the closing ceremony of World Corporate Chess Championship 2024. It was held from 15th to 17th June in New York. For the first time in a long while, World Rapid and Blitz events location has been announced months in advance. It can certainly help players to plan and decide their events well in advance. Siddhant Gawai claims a double at 17th G H Raisoni Memorial Chess Festival 2024

16-year-old Siddhant Gawai scored an unbeaten 10/11 to win 17th G H Raisoni Memorial Rating Open 2024. IM Anwesh Upadhyaya also scored the same. He secured second place on tie-breaks. Siddhant defeated Anwesh in the sixth round. FM Sauravh Khherdekar scored sole 9/11 to finish third. Sidhant won the Rapid Rating Open scoring 8/9. Four more players - Anwesh, Sauravh, Shaunak Badole and CM Vaibhav Jayant Raut finished with the same score 8/9. They were placed second to fifth respectively according to tie-breaks. Vaibhav became champion in the Blitz Rating Open scoring an unbeaten 8.5/9. He finished a half point ahead of the rest. Teenagers - CM Arush Chitre, Bhaavan Kolla and Ansh Dhanvij scored 8/9 each to be placed second, third and fourth respectively. The total prize fund combining all three tournaments was ₹451000. Tbilisi to host inaugural leg of Women's Grand Prix 2024-25

The first leg of FIDE Women's Grand Prix 2024-25 will start in the Georgian capital Tbilisi. It will take place from 14th to 25th August. Ten players will take part in a round-robin tournament. They are - GM Anna Muzychuk (UKR), GM Mariya Muzychuk (UKR), GM Nana Dzagnidze (GEO), IM Sarasadat Khademalsharieh (ESP), GM Alexandra Kosteniuk (SUI), GM R Vaishali, IM Alina Kashlinskaya (POL), IM Lela Javakhishvili (GEO), IM Bibisara Assaubayeva (KAZ) and IM Stavroula Tsolakidou (GRE). The tournament venue will be Biltmore Tbilisi hotel, the first glass skyscraper in Georgia and the highest hotel in the Caucasus. Fabiano Caruana wins Superbet Classic for the second year in-a-row after a hat-trick in Playoffs

Anish Giri (NED) scored the sole win of the final round against Fabiano Caruana (USA). It forced him to play more games in Playoffs. Alireza Firouzja (FRA) was winning against R Praggnanandhaa. That win would have made him a clear champion. However, the teenager denied him the full point. Caruana won all three of his Playoff games against Gukesh, Firouzja and Praggnanandhaa. That made him clinch Superbet Classic for the second consecutive year. Firouzja won two, Gukesh one and Praggnanandhaa could not manage to score any point. Gukesh won his sole Playoff game against Praggnanadhaa. Caruana won US$ 68750. Firouzja, Praggnanandhaa and Gukesh received $58750 each. All four of them scored 9.25 GCT points. Fabiano Caruana (USA) drew with R Praggnanandhaa to maintain his sole lead at Grand Chess Tour Superbet Classic 2024. The World no.3 now has a chance to win this tournament for the second year in-a-row. He will face Anish Giri (NED) in the final round. D Gukesh shared the point with Giri in the penultimate round. The World Championship Challenger came up with a great preparation. However, it was not enough to subdue the Netherlands no.1. The longest game of the round lasted for 84 moves between Nodirbek Abdusattorov (UZB) and Bogdan-Daniel Deac (ROU).
