Shymkent GP R2: Batkhuyag Munguntuul squashes Elisabeth Paehtz in 17 moves

IM Batkhuyag Munguntuul (MGL) scored the sole victory in the second round of FIDE Shymkent GP. Her opponent, GM Elisabeth Paehtz (GER) made a terrible blunder which cost her the game in just 17 moves. This is the Mongolian's third GP event after her previous appearances from 2009-12. IM Divya Deshmukh had another solid draw, this time it was aaginst GM Kateryna Lagno. GM Koneru Humpy had a tiny window of opportunity against GM Zhongyi Tan (CHN). However, she kept things safe and went for a draw. Divya will face Goryachkina and Humpy will play against Munguntuul in Round 3. It starts today at 3 p.m. local time, 3:30 p.m. IST. Aryan and Leon clinch Romania Team Championship - Superliga 2024 for Vados IFB Finwest Arad

GM Leon Luke Mendonca and GM Aryan Chopra won Romania National Team Championship - Superliga 2024 for Vados IFB Finwest Arad. Aryan was the top scorer for his team 7.5/9. Leon contributed a valuable 5.5/8 on the top board. Their teammates were - GM Liviu-Dieter Nisipeanu, GM Costica-Ciprian Nanu, FM Felix-Antonio Ilinca, FM Filip Magold, IM Alexandru-Vasile David and Alin-Vivian Campeanu. Both Vados and CSU ASE Bucuresti scored 16/18 each. However, Vados defeated Bucuresti by 3.5-2.5 in Round 5. That tie-break helped Vados to become the champion, Bucuresti was placed second. Arnav Kherdekar triumphs at 1st SMCA Rating Open 2024

Arnav Kherdekar and IM Vikramaditya Kulkarni scored an unbeaten 7.5/8 each at 1st SMCA Rating Open 2024. Arnav won the tournament on tie-breaks, top seed Vikramaditya was placed second. The sixth round battle between them ended in a draw. Third seeded Yash Watarkar scored sole 7/8 and remained undefeated to finish third. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹300000. The top three prizes were ₹50000, ₹30000 and ₹25000 along with a trophy each. The six-day eight round Rating tournament was organized by and at SMCA Chess School in Mumbai, Maharashtra from 11th to 16th October 2024. This is Arnav's first tournament triumph of the year. Shymkent GP R1: Divya Deshmukh makes a solid start against Koneru Humpy

The first round of FIDE Shymkent GP witnessed three decisive games. In a battle between India no.2 and India no.1 woman, IM Divya Deshmukh had a well contested draw against GM Koneru Humpy. The 45th Olympiad Gold medalist opted for the Scotch Game and kept looking for ways to create chances. However, the legend ensured that she did not make any mistake and the game eventually ended in a draw. GM Kateryna Lagno missed a win against GM Aleksandra Goryachkina. GM Zhongyi Tan (CHN), IM Stavroula Tsolakidou (GRE) and IM Bibisara Assaubayeva (KAZ) won their respective games. Madhvendra Pratap Sharma and Divi Bijesh are 37th National Under-11 Open and Girls 2024 Champions

CM Madhvendra Pratap Sharma (MP) scored an unbeaten 10/11 to win 37th National Under-11 Open 2024. He finished a half point ahead of the rest. Advik Amit Agrawal (MAH) scored 9.5/11 to finish second. CM Aarav A (TN) finished third as he had better tie-breaks than Cyrus Eldho (KER) scoring 9/11. Divi Bijesh (KER) and WCM Pratitee Bordoloi (KAR) scored 9.5/11 each. Divi won the tournament due to better tie-breaks, the defending champion, Pratitee was placed second. Aadya Gowda (KAR) finished third scoring 9/11. Her tie-breaks were better than WCM Aaradhya Das (TRI). The total prize fund combining Open and Girls section was ₹800000. The top three prizes in both Open and Girls sections were ₹70000, ₹60000 and ₹50000 along with a trophy each respectively.

Debayan Ray wins 5th CPPA Rating Open 2024

Debayan Ray and Suraj Dahiya scored an unbeaten 8.5/10 each at 5th CPPA Rating Open 2024. Teenager Debayan won the tournament on tie-breaks, Suraj had to settle for second place. Mohit Kumar Soni and Abhirup Saikia scored 8/10 each. They were placed third and fourth respectively. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹267000. The top three prizes were ₹40000, ₹20000 and ₹12000 along with a trophy each. The six-day ten round Rating tournament was organized by Chess Players' Parents Association, Duliajan at Delhi Public School, Duliajan in Dibrugarh, Assam from 9th to 14th October 2024. Divya Deshmukh set to make her FIDE Women's GP debut in Shymkent, Kazakhstan

The second leg of the FIDE Women's Grand Prix 2024-25 will start today in Shymkent, Kazakhstan. IM Divya Deshmukh will make her FIDE Women's GP debut at this event. The legend, GM Koneru Humpy will be the only other Indian participant. The 10-player round-robin tournament will feature GM Zhongyi Tan (CHM), GM Aleksandra Goryachkina, GM Kateryna Lagno, IM Bibisara Assaubayeva (KAZ), GM Elisabeth Paehtz (GER), IM Stavroula Tsolakidou (GRE), IM Nurgyul Salimova (BUL) and IM Batkhuyag Munguntuul (MGL) along with the previously mentioned Humpy and Divya. Intellectual Fireworks—A Glimpse into Mumbai's Diwali Chess-Solving Spectacle!

ChessBase India's week-long, free-for-all Big Diwali Chess Camp concluded on a high note on October 27, 2024, after catering to nearly 500 enthusiastic attendees. On October 26, the penultimate day, an intense chess-solving contest took centre stage. The challenge was to solve six complex chess compositions in just two hours. Carefully curated by Satanick Mukhuty, the Chess Composition Editor of ChessBase India, the tasks included four problems and two studies designed to push the participants' strategic and tactical prowess to the limit. Ultimately, among the 35 contestants, the 22-year-old Pushkar Dere secured a decisive victory with a remarkable score of 29/30, outpacing the competition by a commanding 16.5-point margin. FM Vedant Panesar took second place with 12.5/30, closely followed by a four-way tie for third between Mitali Naik, Pratyush Bhatt, Arjun Iyer, and Neemay Bhanushali, each scoring 10/30. Balkishan awesome at Puneeth Rajkumar Cup Rapid Rating Open 2024

Balkishan A scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win Puneeth Rajkumar Cup Rapid Rating Open 2024. He finished a half point ahead of the field. Dr. Prajwal P Shet, IM Ramnathan Balasubramaniam and Marthandan K U scored 8/9 each. They secured second, third and fourth place respectively according to tie-breaks. Balkishan defeated Prajwal and Ramnathan consecutively in Round 7 and 8. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹200000 cash + 200 trophies. The top three prizes were ₹25000, ₹15000 and ₹10000 along with a trophy each. The winner received a Puneeth special trophy. The two-day nine round Rapid Rating and Blitz Open tournaments were organized by Davangere Chess Club at Bapuji Bank Samudaya Bhavana in Davangere, Karnataka on 5th and 6th October 2024. Mandar Pradip Lad scored a perfect 9/9 to win 7th Late Shri Chandrakant Naik Memorial Rapid Rating Open 2024. He finished a full point ahead of the competition. Top seed - IM Ethan Vaz and Dmitry Bezstrakhov scored 8/9 each. They secured second and third place respectively according to tie-breaks. Mandar defeated Ethan in Round 7. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹100000. The top three prizes were ₹20000, ₹12000 and ₹8000 along with a trophy each. The two-day nine round Rapid Rating tournament was organized by Quepem Taluka Chess Association at Govt. College of Arts Commerce and Science Quepem Goa in Goa on 5th and 6th October 2024. This is Mandar's sixth overall tournament triumph of the year.
