India wins 51 medals at Asian Youth Chess Championships 2023

India has won a mammoth 51 medals including 19 individual (9 Gold, 6 Silver and 4 Bronze) medals, 32 team (15 Gold, 14 Silver and 3 Bronze) medals at Asian Youth Chess Championships 2023. Sharvaanica A S is the only Indian who won an individual medal in all three formats - Classical, Rapid and Blitz in Under-8 Girls category. Kiyana Parihar won an individual Gold and Silver medal in Under-8 Girls. Harsh Suresh, Muhammad Shayan Noushad Ibrahim, Saparya Ghosh, WIM Tejaswini G, WFM Bhagyashree Patil, Pratitee Bordoloi and Nivedita V C also bagged an individual medal each. Neelash Saha dominates 3rd Dumka Rating Open 2023

IM Neelash Saha scored an unbeaten 8/9 to win 3rd Dumka Rating Open 2023. He finished a half point ahead of the field. IM Kaustuv Kundu and GM Thej Kumar M S scored 7.5/9 each. They secured second and third place according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹815000. The top three prizes were ₹175000, ₹100000 and ₹50000 along with a trophy each. Neelash defeated the eventual runner-up Kaustuv in the sixth round. He also drew against both GMs - Saptarshi RoyChowdhury and Thej Kumar. This was Neelash's fifth triumph of the year. Alexei Fedorov wins 10th Tamil Nadu IM-norm Closed Circuit 2023, Suyog Wagh second

GM Alexei Fedorov scored 7.5/9 to win 10th Tamil Nadu IM-norm Closed Circuit Chess Tournament 2023. He finished a full point ahead of the competition. FM Suyog Wagh and IM Asylbek Abdyzhapar scored 6.5/9 each. They were placed second and third according to tie-breaks respectively. Suyog became the sole player to beat the eventual champion, Alexei. He gained 56 Elo rating points. However, he missed an IM-norm by a half point. The series goes on a break as there are two Open GM tournaments slated to take place in Tamil Nadu. Gukesh wins Chennai Grand Masters 2023, Arjun Erigaisi second and Harikrishna third

D Gukesh drew his final round game against Pentala Harikrishna. Arjun Erigaisi defeated Sanan Sjugirov (HUN). Both Gukesh and Arjun ended up having the same score 4.5/7. Gukesh won Chennai Grand Masters on tie-breaks, Arjun was placed second. Pavel Eljanov (UKR) drew against Levon Aronian (USA). Thus, Harikrishna and Eljanov also finished with 4/7 each. Harikrishna secured third place. The objective of organizing this event was certainly a huge success. The top three places were claimed by the Indians. This triumph has moved Gukesh ahead of Anish Giri in the FIDE Circuit leaderboard. Sai Akhil Anand designed and helped with the 'Draw of Lots' in the opening ceremony and the closing ceremony was graced by the one and only - Vishy Anand. Visakh N R wins 5th Roma Citta Aperta Master 2023, C R G Krishna second

GM Visakh N R, IM C R G Krishna and GM Tigran K Harutyunyan (ARM) scored 7/9 each at 5th Roma Citta Aperta Master (>2000) 2023. Visakh became champion due to better tie-breaks, Krishna second and Tigran third. Both Visakh and Krishna remained undefeated. They drew against each other in the final round. Sai Mahati A scored an unbeaten 8/9 to win the Open A (1700-2099). She finished a full point ahead of the competition. FM Ritvik Krishnan won Trofeo Lorenzo Castellano Rapid Rating Open. He scored 7/8 and finished a half point ahead of the field. The total prize fund of the festival was €7350. The top three prizes in Master were €1000, €800 and €600 along with a trophy each, Open A - €700, €500 and €400. For Rapid - €100 was the first prize. Chennai Grand Masters 2023 R6: Arjun wins, Gukesh set for showdown against Harikrishna

Arjun Erigaisi scored the sole victory in the penultimate round of Chennai Grand Masters 2023. It started a little wild compared to the other games. His opponent Parham Maghsoodloo (IRI) decided to sacrifice his bishop to get a couple of pawns and exploit Arjun's weakened king. However, there was not enough compensation and White could not generate a substantial attack. The other games had a relatively calm draw between Gukesh - Eljanov (UKR), Aronian (USA) - Predke (SRB) and Sanan (SRB) - Harikrishna. Rupesh B Ramchandra wins Appycrown Chess for Everyone Rating Open 2023 in Bihar

Rupesh B Ramchandra and Vipul Subhashi scored 7.5/9 at Appycrown Chess for Everyone Rating Open 2023 in Motihari, Bihar. Rupesh won the tournament due to better tie-breaks. He also remained undefeated. Vipul secured second place. 13-year-old Ranit Maity edged past four other players at 7/9 to be placed third. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹43000 + 20 trophies. The top three prizes were ₹11000, ₹8000 and ₹6000 each respectively. Rupesh is the reigning Patna District champion. His last rating tournament triumph was the very same event, more than a year ago. The objective of Chess for Everyone tournaments is to have a low entry barrier of only ₹250, encourage maximum players to take part in rating tournaments and gain rating. Chennai Grand Masters 2023 R5: Gukesh subdues Sanan, emerges sole leader

D Gukesh scored his second win in-a-row against Sanan Sjugirov (HUN) in the fifth round of Chennai Grand Masters 2023. Gukesh seized his advantage and synthesized an attack on the kingside. Sanan had no proper answer to it and succumbed. The Arjun Erigaisi-Levon Aronian saga continues. Arjun had a great opportunity to beat Aronian for the first time in a rated game in over two years. Unfortunately, he pushed a pawn incorrectly in the rook endgame and eventually lost his advantage. The two-time World Cup winner managed to salvage a draw. Pavel Eljanov (UKR) handed Alexandr Predke (SRB) his third consecutive loss. Gukesh is in the sole lead 3.5/5, followed by Pentala Harikrishna and Eljanov at 3/5 each. Viresh Sharnarthi (MAH) and Sriram Adarsh Uppala (TEL) scored 9.5/11 each at 36th National Under-13 Open 2023. Viresh won the tournament due to better tie-breaks, Sriram secured second place. Raghav V (TN) edged past two more players who also scored 9/11 to be placed third. Shreya G Hipparagi (MAH) scored 9.5/11 and finished a half point ahead of the field to become the champion in Girls section. Shanmathi Sree S (TN) scored sole 9/11 to claim the second place. Top seed Kalyani Sirin (KER) scored 8.5/11 to be adjudged third. The total prize fund combining Open and Girls section was ₹800000. D Gukesh scored his first win of the event against Alexandr Predke (SRB) in the fourth round of Chennai Grand Masters 2023. Gukesh joined Pentala Harikrishna in the lead 2.5/4 each. Harikrishna had a well contested draw against Levon Aronian (USA). The two-time World Cup winner elaborated his thoughts on his previous day's reply to chess24 tweet. Parham Maghsoodloo (IRI) also scored his first win of the event against Sanan Sjugirov (HUN). Arjun Erigaisi had a well contested draw against Pavel Eljanov (UKR). FM Syed Anwar Shazuli scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win 1st KPK-ABCCC Rapid Rating Open 2023. He finished a half point ahead of the field. Four players - IM FT Harikrishnan A Ra, Nirmal L, FM Harshad S and Ram S Krishnan scored 8/9 each. They were placed second to fifth respectively. Nirmal and Harshad also remained undefeated. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹200000. The top three prizes were ₹20000, ₹15000 and ₹12000 each respectively. This was Syed's first rating tournament triumph of the year. Chennai Grand Masters 2023 R3: Arjun Erigaisi pulverizes Predke

Arjun Erigaisi scored his first win of the event against Alexandr Predke (SRB) in the third round of Chennai Grand Masters 2023. After losing the first round against Harikrishna, Arjun was virtually in a must-win situation to stay in the championship hunt and keep his chances in the FIDE Circuit. Alexandr Predke (SRB) made a positional mistake which allowed his opponent to force the queen exchange. Arjun made the most out of his opportunity to trail the leaders - Sanan Sjugirov (HUN) and Harikrishna by a half point at 1.5/3 each along with Levon Aronian (USA), Pavel Eljanov (UKR) and D Gukesh. A mutual blunder between Harikrishna and Eljanov allowed the former to salvage a half point via perpetual check. Gukesh had a relatively calm draw against Parham Maghsoodloo (IRI). IM David Gochelashvili scored an unbeaten 6.5/9 to win 9th Tamil Nadu IM-norm Closed Circuit Chess Tournament 2023. He finished a half point ahead of the field. GM Alexei Fedorov and GM Evgeniy Podolchenko scored 6/9 each. They were placed second and third according to tie-breaks respectively. FM Karthik Rajaa is the highest finisher among Indians. Vishy Anand inaugurated Chennai Grand Masters 2023 by making the first move on D Gukesh and Arjun Erigaisi's board. They had a relatively calm draw. Alexandr Predke (SRB) had good chances against Pentala Harikrishna. However, he blundered away his advantage. The endgame expert, Harikrishna does not miss these chances to secure a half point. Pavel Eljanov (UKR) made an incorrect offer of queen trades which resulted in him losing an exchange. The already difficult endgame turned worse for him and his opponent Sanan Sjugirov (HUN) scored his first-ever Classical win over his opponent. GM Mitrabha Guha scored an unbeaten 7.5/8 to win XIV Gran Hotel Bali Blitz Rating Open 2023. He finished a half point ahead of the field. FM Xulio Del Prado Rodriguez (ESP), GM Rustam Khusnutdinov (KAZ), FM Felix-Antonio Illinca (ROU) and Francisco Javier Barranco Cara (ESP) scored 7/8 each. They were placed second to fifth place respectively. This was Mitrabha's ninth tournament triumph of the year. GM Karen Grigoryan (ARM) won the Open A event scoring 8/9 and remained undefeated. Seven players scored 7/9 each. Out of them, GM Evgeny Zanan (ISR) and Mitrabha secured second and third place according to tie-breaks. Sham R won the Aficionados B (Below 2000) tournament.
