19th Asian Games 2022 Team R2: Indian Women victorious against Vietnam, Men draw versus Uzbekistan

Indian Women defeated Vietnam 2.5-1.5 in the second round of 19th Asian Games 2022. IM Vaishali R scored the crucial victory for her team against WGM Thi Kim Phung Vo (VIE). GM Koneru Humpy was in deep trouble. Thankfully, her opponent IM Pham Le Thao Nguyen (VIE) could not capitalize on her huge chance. IM Vantika Agrawal had a great decisive advantage against WGM Thi Thanh An Nguyen (VIE). However, she couldn't seize her chance and the game ended in a draw. In the Men's section, India drew against Uzbekistan 2-2. GM D Gukesh got himself in slight trouble in the endgame against GM Nodirbek Abdusattorov (UZB). He managed to avoid the worst and draw the game. Indian men will face Kazakhstan and women will battle against Indonesia. Round 3 starts today from 3 p.m. local time, 12:30 p.m. IST. 13-year-olds Arjun Adireddy and Shubhi Gupta are National Junior 2023 Open and Girls Champions

CM Arjun Adireddy (TEL) scored an unbeaten 10/11 to win 52nd National Junior Under-19 Open 2023. Shubhi Gupta (UP) had a 9.5/11 score to win 37th National Junior Girls event. While Arjun finished a full point ahead, Shubhi became champion by staying a half point of the field. IM Manish Anto Cristiano F (TN) and Dhanashree Khairmode (MAH) scored sole 9/11 to secure second place. Yash Bharadia (RAJ) and Sneha Halder (WB) were adjudged third scoring 8.5/11 each. The total prize fund combining Open and Girls section was ₹1000000. The top three prizes in both Open and Girls sections were ₹100000, ₹72000 and ₹60000 along with a trophy each respectively. 19th Asian Games 2022 Team R1: India beats Mongolia and Philippines 3.5-0.5

Indian Men and Women defeated Mongolia and Philippines convincingly in the first round of 19th Asian Games 2022 Team. Both matches were decided with 3.5-0.5 score in favor of India. D Gukesh had a shaky start. He was on the brink of defeat against GM Sumiya Bilguun (MGL). However, he somehow managed to escape with a draw. His remaining teammates - R Praggnanandhaa, Vidit Gujrathi and Arjun Erigaisi won their respective games comfortably. Among the Women, only IM Vantika Agrawal was held to a draw by WIM Jan Jodilyn Fronda (PHI). GM Harika Dronavalli, IM Vaishali R and WGM Savitha Shri B won their respective games without any difficulty. Indian Men will face Uzbekistan, while the Women's team will be up against Vietnam. Sarbartho Mani (WB) scored a perfect 9/9 to win 36th National Under-7 Open 2023. Narayani Umesh Marathe (MAH) registered 8.5/9 to win the Girls event. Both champions finished a full point ahead of the field. Kavish Palaniappan K (TN) and Shivay Singh (UP) scored 8/9 to secure second and third place according to tie-breaks. Sanvitha A Shetty (KAR) scored sole 7.5/9 to be placed second. Nakshatra Gumudavelly (KAR) edged past five other girls to claim third place 7/9. Anirudhha Potawad wins The Chembur Gymkhana 1st Rapid Rating Open 2023

Anirudhha Potawad and IM Vikramaditya Kulkarni scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 each at The Chembur Gymkhana 1st Rapid Rating Open 2023. Anirudhha won the tournament due to better tie-breaks, Vikramaditya secured second place. Aakash Sharadchandra Dalvi, Pushkar Dere, Ankur Mahesh Gokhale and Jeet Shah scored 8/9 each. They were placed third to sixth according to tie-breaks. Anirudhha's sole draw occurred in the final round against the eventual second runner-up, Aakash. The total prize fund of the was ₹200000 and trophies. The top three prizes were ₹20000, ₹10000 and ₹8000. Vidit Gujrathi got himself very close to winning a medal in the individual rapid event of 19th Asian Games 2022. However, that event need to be put behind as the team event starts today. India is the top seed in the Men's event, while India is the second seed in the Women. D Gukesh, R Praggnanandhaa, Vidit Gujrathi, Arjun Erigaisi and Pentala Harikrishna will be battling in the Men. GM Koneru Humpy, GM Harika Dronavalli, IM Vaishali R, IM Vantika Agrawal and WGM Savitha Shri B comprises the Women's team. David Brodsky triumphs at 89th Annual Southwest Open 2023, Koustav, Rahul and Saksham share second place

GM David Brodsky (USA) scored an unbeaten 6/7 to win 89th Annual Southwest Open 2023. He finished a half point ahead of the field. Seven players - GM Koustav Chatterjee, GM Ivan Schitco (MDA), FM Sharvesh R Deviprasath (USA), IM Karolis Juksta (LTU), GM Rahul Srivasthav P, IM Saksham Rautela and Lucius Melillo (USA) scored 5.5/7 each. They shared second place. The winner received US$ 1200 + plauqe. The eight players who shared second place got US$ 400 each. This was Koustav's first tournament in USA. Srihari L (PUD) also drew his game against IM Manish Anto Cristiano F (TN). Thus, Arjun mantained his sole lead 9/10. Kartavya Anadkat (GUJ) defeated Alekhya Mukhopadhyay (WB) to move to 8/10. He will face Arjun in the final round. Manas is the only one trailing the leader by a half point at 8.5/10. In the Girls section, Shubhi Gupta (UP) and Dhanashree Khairmode (MAH) defeated Sneha Halder (WB) and Dakshita Kumawat (RAJ) respectively to maintain their lead 8.5/10. IM Dushyant Sharma defeated GM Nikolozi Kacharava (GEO) to become one of the six leaders at 5/6. The Georgian made an exchange sacrifice to weaken Dushyant's king. However, he was unable to generate any attack. Later he misplayed and Dushyant seized his opportunity to win the game. GM Pranav Anand defeated IM Kirk Ghazarian (USA). GM Marc'Andria Maurizzi (FRA), Pranav, IM Gleb Dudin (HUN), IM Ruben Gideon Koellner (GER), GM Santiago Avila Pavas (COL) and Dushyant are currently leading 5/6 each. WGM Rakshitta Ravi made a tactical error which cost her material against IM Carissa Yip (USA). Yip has taken sole lead 5.5/6, followed by three girls at 5/6 each. Vidit is at 5/7, a half point behind the sole leader Yi 5.5/7. Three more players - Abdusattorov, GM Tuan Minh Le (VIE) and GM Sumiya Bilguun (MGL) are also at 5/7. They will inevitably face each other in the sixth round. In the Open section, GM Marc`Andria Maurizzi (ITA) is the sole leader 4.5/5. He is followed by 16 players at 4/5 each. GM Vidit Gujrathi bounced back by winning both of his games convincingly in Round 3 and 4 at 19th Asian Games 2022. He defeated FM Prin Laohawirapap (THA) and GM Tuan Minh Le (VIE). GM Arjun Erigaisi defeated GM Ngoc Truong Son Nguyen (VIE) in the third round. However, he missed a great opportunity to beat GM M Amin Tabatabaei (IRI) in Round 4. A series of inaccuracies by Manish allowed Arjun to gain the upper hand and an exchange. He converted his advantage into a full point comfortably. Alekhya Mukhopadhyay (WB) bounced back from his loss. His daredevil play against Mandar Pradip Lad (Goa) fetched him a victory. Alekhya and Manas Gaikwad (MAH) are currently trailing the leader by a half point at 7/8 each. In the Girls section, Ishvi Aggarwal (HAR) stopped Sneha Halder's (WB) winning streak.
