MPL 31st National Under-18 Chess Championships 2022 preview

180 players are expected to take part in MPL 31st National Under-18 Open and Girls Chess Championship 2022. India's 73rd GM Bharath Subramaniyam H will be the top seed in the Open section, WFM Jyothsna L will be among Girls. The tournament will have a total prize fund ₹900,000. Each group has a prize fund of ₹450,000, the first prize being ₹90000 in each section. It will be organized by Dr. Mahalingam College of Engineering and Technology, Pollachi & Coimbatore District Chess Association from 18th to 23rd April 2022. Kvika Reykjavik Open R4: Lukasz Jarmula takes sole lead

GM Lukasz Jarmula (POL) defeated GM Hans Niemann (USA) to take sole lead 4.0/4 at Kvika Reykjavik Open 2022. Gukesh, Praggnanandhaa, top seed of the tournament Pouya Idani (IRI), Alexandr Fier (BRA), Hjorvar Steinn Gretarsson (ISL) and Hedinn Steingrimsson (ISL) are trailing by a half point at 3.5/4 each. Gukesh, Praggnanandhaa, Abhijeet Gupta, Tania Sachdev and Vardaan Nagpal scored a win each. Adhiban and Raunak were held to draws by their strong IM opponents. Can Soundarya win 15th AICFB National Chess Championship for Visually Challenged?

Kishan Gangolli (KAR) was held to a draw by Swapanil Shah (MAH) and Marimuthu K (TN) in the seventh and eighth round respectively. Meanwhile Soundarya Kumar Pradhan (ODI) won both of his games on the penultimate day against Subhendu Kumar Patra (ODI) and Aryan B Joshi (MAH) respectively. It propelled him to the sole lead 7.0/8. Kishan is at a half point behind 6.5/8, followed by Swapanil and Marimuthu at 6.0/8 each. Soundarya faces Swapanil in the last round and Kishan goes against the top seed Darpan Inani (GUJ). A win makes Soundarya a clear champion, whereas a draw will leave his fate on Kishan's hands. Kvika Reykjavik Open R2-3: Gukesh's model win in the KID

Third seeded GM Hans Niemann (USA) and GM Lukasz Jarmula (POL) emerged coleaders at the conclusion of the third round of Kvika Reykjavik Open 2022. Gukesh, Adhiban and Raunak are at 2.5/3 each. Gukesh scored a very nice win in the King's Indian Defence in the second round against IM Thibault Fantinel (FRA). Adhiban converted his extra pawn advantage into a win against popular chess streamer IM Eric Rosen (USA). Raunak won against FM Harry Grieve convincingly in Round 3. 15th AICFB National R5-6: Kishan Gangolli gains sole lead 5.5/6

Kishan Gangolli won both of his games on the third day to gain sole lead 5.5/6 at SAVA Herbals 15th AICFB National Chess Championship for Visually Challenged players. He defeated Ashvin K Makwana and Milind Samant. Although Ashvin managed to recover an inferior position and the game seemed to be heading towards a draw. In the minor piece endgame, Kishan's opponent miscalculated and the tournament leader figured a way to maximize his bishop pair along with his well-positioned king. Nigmatov Ortik clinches 3rd Gujarat GM Open 2022, Neelotpal second and Anuj third

IM Nigmatov Ortik (UZB) drew his final round game against GM Neelotpal Das. IM Anuj Shrivatri scored his sixth consecutive victory of the event and ended IM Srihari L R's unbeaten streak. Ortik, Neelotpal and Anuj scored 8.5/10 each. Ortik won 3rd Gujarat International GM Open 2022 due to better tie-break score, Neelotpal and Anuj were placed second and third respectively. Top three won ₹251000, ₹201000 and ₹150000 respectively along with a trophy each. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹15,00,000. Kvika Reykjavik Open R1: First round jitters

One of the strongest Open tournament, Reykjavik Open is back for the first time since 2019. Much like many other events, Covid-19 pandemic caused the event to go on a hiatus for the past two years. Five out of the top ten seeds are Indian players. Accelerated pairings ensured a tough challenge for the top seeds. Gukesh, Raunak had to work really hard to earn their first point. Adhiban, Praggnanandhaa and Abhijeet Gupta scored relatively easier victories. Kishan Gangolli, Subhendu Kumar Patra, Soundarya Kumar Pradhan, Ashvin K Makwana and Milind Samant are the five players in the lead. They all drew their respective games in the fourth round of SAVA Herbals 15th AICFB National Chess Championship for Visually Challenged players. IM Srihari L R held GM Neelotpal Das to a solid draw in the penultimate round of 3rd Gujarat International GM Open 2022. IM Ortik Nigmatov (UZB) won against GM Stany G A to join the lead with Neelotpal 8.0/9. Ortik and Neelotpal will face each other in the final round. The winner will become a clear champion. While a draw would allow Abdisalimov and Srihari to catch up with them and maybe surpass on tie-breaks too. Two in-form teenagers IM Anuj Shrivatri and IM Srihari will clash on the second board. Garv Gaur wins Holi Cup Lakecity Rapid Rating Open 2022

14-year-old CM Garv Gaur scored an unbeaten 8.0/9 and finished a half point ahead of the competition to win Holi Cup International Lakecity Rapid Rating Open 2022. His sole draw was against Vrashank Chouhan in the fourth round. Three players scored 7.5/9 - Kumar Gaurav, Prakash Ram and Harish Sharma. They were placed second to fourth according to the tie-breaks. Garv won ₹21000 cash, Runner-up Kumar earned ₹15000, and Prakash received ₹11000 cash as their respective prize. All three of them received a trophy each. 19-year-old Somender B L (DEL) defeated the top seed of the tournament, Darpan Inani (GUJ) in Round 2 of SAVA Herbals 15th AICFB National Chess Championship for Visually Challenged 2022-23. Another Delhite, Satya Praksah Shrivastava won against sixth seeded veteran, Krishna Udupa (KAR). MPL 34th National Under-12 Chess Championships 2022 preview

Mandya is town situated between Bangalore and Mysore highway, It is 98 km away from Bangalore and 40 km from Mysore. Now it will be center of attraction in Indian chess as some of the brightest under-12 talents of our country will fight it out with each other from 9th to 14th April 2022. 3rd Gujarat GM Open R7: Neelotpal, Ortik and Srihari in a three-way lead

GM Neelotpal Das showed his endgame understanding as he beat GM Hesham Abdelrahman (EGY) to maintain his lead. IM Nitin S was unable to put up a fight against the other tournament leader, IM Ortik Nigmatov (UZB). IM Srihari L R continues his good form as he averted disaster to beat GM Adham Fawzy (EGY) and remain one of the three leaders 6.5/7. FM Suyog Wagh probably missed the biggest chance of the round against GM Stany G A. Srihari will face Ortik and Neelotpal will be up against Paraguay no.1 GM Neuris Delgado Ramirez in a crucial round which will certainly have serious implications for the championship. Incredible Arjun Erigaisi clinches MPL Indian Chess Tour 2022 leg 1

Arjun Erigaisi won his fourth consecutive individual tournament MPL Indian Chess Tour leg 1, fifth overall triumph of the year 2022. He qualified to the Tour finals and will also play at a Meltwater Champions Chess Tour stage. Arjun's ascension towards his golden stage started last summer at Goldmoney Asian Rapid. The runner-up Raunak Sadhwani was the only one who had the opportunity to break Arjun's streak. Both Arjun and Raunak drew their respective games in the last round and they secured the top two places. Gukesh and Surya scored identical points. They were placed third and fourth.
