Poland wins the first FIDE Online Olympiad for People with Disabilities

The first edition of FIDE Online Olympiad for People with Disabilities came to an end on 2nd December 2020 when Poland 1 beat Russia 3-1. Poland 1 lost the first match by 2.5-1.5 but they made a good comeback in their second encounter to clinch the Gold. Russia 1 had to settle for Silver and Ukraine 3 won the Bronze by beating Poland 3 by 2.5-1.5 and 3-1 respectively in the Finals. Four Indian team took part in the event but neither of them advanced to the Final stage. India 2 finished 13th with 9.0/14 while India 1 finished at 18th position with also 9.0/14. Photo: FIDE

Super Juniors Cup: Srihari and Aronyak are the 'Giant Killers'

Super Juniors Cup had an explosive start as two GMs already got eliminated on Day 1. IM Aronyak Ghosh gave himself a perfect birthday gift by eliminating GM Prithu Gupta and FM Srihari L R played some fantastic and practical chess to eliminate GM Harsha Bharathakoti from the tournament respectively. WFM Savitha Shri B managed to survive a completely lost position against the top seed of the event GM Nihal Sarin. Meet the 32 Gladiators of the Super Juniors Cup 2020!

The Super Juniors Cup is an initiative by the ChessBase India Foundation to bring the best juniors of Indian chess (born on and after 2000) together to fight it out for a big prize! The players are incredibly powerful in their own right, and have hence been given nicknames to better associate them with their personality! From tactical masters and queen sacrifices, to calculated positional maneuvers and crushing defeats, these champions have it all. 16 players will play on 6th of December, and the remaining 16 the next day on the 7th. Samay Raina's Ambani OP members contribute Rs 2,00,000 to the Super Juniors Cup 2020

A massive contribution of Rs.2,00,000 by Samay Raina and his Ambani OP members and Rs.20,000 by Tania Sachdev has made the Super Juniors Cup 2020 even more exciting. From Rs.3,02,000, we now have a prize fund of Rs.5,20,000. It's been around 8 months since Samay started streaming chess on his YouTube channel. Since then he has built up a chess loving community who have put their foot forward for some amazing initiatives. Recently turned YouTube streamer Tania Sachdev decided support girl players as she donated all the superchats of her 2nd stream. Customs Duty for FIDE Online Olympiad Gold?

Team India won a historic Gold in the FIDE Online Olympiad on 30th August 2020. Little did anyone could have fathomed that Team India's quest for Gold would not end on the very same day. Receiving and sending the medals to all players was a challenge the Vice-Captain of the Indian team, GM Srinath Narayanan was up for. He had endured electricity, internet connectivity, team management and various other stuff so this one also he handled very nicely. Srinath kept mentioning that receiving the Gold medals as soon as possible and dispatching it to the players to make sure they receive them quickly was always the priority. Leon Mendonca wins Kumánia Championship

IM Leon Mendonca won his second tournament in Hungary in two weeks as he scored an unbeaten 9.0/11 to win Kumánia Championship. Two weeks ago Leon won First Saturday GM November. The tournament was only an IM-norm event, so Leon's search for the final GM-norm to become India's 67th GM is still on. We hope he becomes one before the year concludes. He is also the brand ambassador of Geno and Microsense for a reason. Wesley So wins Champions Chess Tour Skilling Open

Last year on 2nd November So beat Carlsen to become the first ever Fischer Random Official World Champion. This year on 30th November, So beat Carlsen again and this time win the first tournament of Champions Chess Tour - Skilling Open by beating the World Champion in the Finals and advancing to the Finals of the Tour. Despite starting the day with a loss, So immediately struck back by winning the following Rapid game. He drew the next two Rapid games, won the first Blitz game and drew the second to clinch the championship. Fun fact: So beat Carlsen three times in the Finals with white pieces and all those victories were in endgames. Photo: chess24

Can Carlsen win Skilling Open on his 30th birthday?

For the first time in Skilling Open knockout stage, all four games had a decisive result. Both Carlsen and So played in a humane way, full of blunders and errors. Although it was the world champion who made more errors and he really needs to get his form back if he wants to win the tournament on his 30th birthday. The Fischer Random Official world champion made less blunders and more of positional mistakes. It will definitely be an interesting battle on the final day of Skilling Open. Mitrabha Guha dominates 16th Maheshwaranand Saraswati Memorial Online Blitz Open

IM Mitrabha Guha won his second tournament organized by Buddhibal Kreeda Trust within six months when he remained undefeated by scoring 8.5/9 to win 16th Maheshwaranand Saraswati Memorial Online Blitz Open. He received a shining trophy and ₹15000 cash for his efforts. FM Pranav Anand and GM Jakhongir Vakhidov finished with 7.5/9. They were placed second and third respectively according to their tie-break scores. They won ₹10000 and ₹7000 cash respectively. For the first time in Playchess, we made it mandatory for all players to be on video call throughout the event, screen sharing and pairings being displayed on chess-results.

Skilling Open SF Day 2: So sets up a clash with Carlsen in the Finals

Nepomniachtchi and Nakamura couldn't replicate their Quarter-Final comebacks and crashed out of the Champions Chess Tour Skilling Open. Although Nepomniachtchi started the day with a win over Carlsen, he couldn't continue the momentum as he lost the second game immediately. Meanwhile, Nakamura was completely lost in the first two games and somehow managed to salvage a draw in both of them. Carlsen and So had no trouble in making a draw in their last two games. Carlsen and So will face each other in the finals for the first time since they faced each other at Saint Louis Rapid and Blitz Online 2020 where they became co-champions over two months ago. FIDE Online Olympiad for PWD R7: India 2 finishes ahead of India 1

India 1's campaign came to an end after they suffered a loss by narrow margin against Russia 2 in the seventh and final round of the Swiss league stage in FIDE Online Olympiad for People with Disabilities. India 1 finished 18th, thus their Semi-final hopes dashed. India 2 finished ahead of India 1 at 13th position by beating Romania 1 with a score of 2.5-1.5. India 3 beat Mali by 3-1 and India 4 lost to Russia 3 by 1-3. However 16-year-old Kanishri played fantastic in her only second game of the event and avoided her team getting whitewashed in the final round of the event. Photo: Amruta Mokal
