When R Praggnanandhaa returned to India after becoming the first-ever Indian to win the prestigious Norway Chess 2026, defeating World No.1 Magnus Carlsen twice in the same event. He was welcomed with a massive gesture of encouragement. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay felicitated the young prodigy, presenting him with a cash award of ₹50 lakh on behalf of the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu (SDAT).

In the final round, he defeated the defending champion, Aravindh Chithambaram, to clinch the title. IM Savitha Shri Baskar scored an unbeaten 7.5/9 points to become the Asian Women's Individual Chess Champion 2026. Savitha started the tournament on the 6th rank with a rating of 2374. She played tremendous chess and scored 2 consecutive wins in the last 2 rounds to clinch the title. Savitha played with a performance rating of 2555 and increased rating by 19.5 points, taking it to 2395! With this win, Savitha also qualified for the FIDE Women's World Cup 2027.

IM Aradhya Garg scored an unbeaten 8/9 points to win the Shri Dhanpat Rai Sachdeva Memorial Open FIDE Classical Chess Tournament 2026. Aradhya remained unbeaten throughout the event and defeated Rosh Jain, who is a talented youngster from Delhi itself. Seven players scored 7.5/9 points to finish in 2nd to 8th places, respectively. Tiebreak scores helped IM Ajay Santhosh Parvathareddy and IM Neelash Saha to secure 2nd and 3rd place.
